- How did philanthropists in the late 1800s adhere to social responsibility?

R: It is not until a century later that issues such as human rights, the environment, labor
practices, consumer protection and fair operating practices arise. The term social
responsibility as such began to be used in the 1970s, however there are embargoes that very
early in history there was already talk of responsibility with society linked to the employer
and not to the company. However, the issue of philanthropy today and as a result of poverty
rates and the growing gap between rich and poor has once again become a point of
discussion when it comes to the issue of social responsibility.

The recently approved ISO 26000 Standard mentions philanthropy in several of its elements,
however it emphasizes that philanthropy should not be confused with social responsibility,
since philanthropic activities by themselves do not achieve the objective of integrating social
responsibility in the organization Due to the boom that philanthropy has taken again and
with the aim of exchanging points of view on this exciting topic, the Second RSE Chat was
held, obtaining interesting conclusions oriented to whether or not philanthropy is part of
Social Responsibility.
