WHAT ARE ETHICS

Ethics may be beliefs about right or wrong behaviour within a society.

Ethics are different from values

Values are defined as habits that incline people to do what is acceptable.

To make ethical decisions, the following model must be implemented:

 Diagnosing ethical dilemmas

 Gather information
 State options
 Consider options according to ethical principles
 Taking a decision
 Putting the decision into action

                In this lecture, I came to know how to deal with ethics while working in IT. As
everyone has a different dilemma in life, it depends on the conditions and how we react to
that problems but working as IT professionals we should always keep in mind that we are
working for an organization and always try to deal best with an ethical dilemma as learned in
this lecture. This lecture helps us to develop different qualities in us that will help us in our
careers like competence, reliability, trustworthiness, high work standards, self-motivation,
etc.

Here I want to share my own experience when I had to face a dilemma. Once my car
met with a minor accident such that car was no longer able to drive and I did not have money
at that time to buy new car as well as insurance of my car was not full that I could claim it to
get money. My friend suggested me to took off number plates of car and to complaint in
police station that my car was stolen, then claim to insurance company so that I could get
money. At that time I was in dilemma but I choose not to do this because my inner feelings
did not allow me to do that. Now after learning ethics in this lecture I am pretty sure that I
had done right by not accepting his suggestion.

Business or IT ethics: -

                   There are several resources to help IT professionals seek ethical guidance in their
work. For example, The Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) and
SANS both have published IT codes of conduct, while IEEE has a code of ethics for its
members..  Setting up professional ethics helps us to navigate complex relationships in the
