I. INTRODUCTION
A. BRIEF BACKGROUND
Academic performance is the measurement of student achievement across various
academic subjects. Teachers and education officials typically measure achievement
using classroom performance and results from quarterly exams or tests.

However, it is true that some students struggle in getting high marks or grades
when it comes to their academic performance due to various factors that affect
their academic performance such as problems at home or school, financial
problem, and even the excessive use of social media. According to Philippine Star
“Poverty, poor nutrition, language problems and inadequate school facilities are
among the factors that have been cited for the poor performance of young Filipino
students”.

According to Alegria V. Garcia “There are several factors affecting the students
academic performance. Some are home, school, teacher, and student factors. Most
of the factors are home related such as family size, financial burden, parental
attitude towards education and parenting style”. While according to Ajay Singh
“Social media platforms are a significant factor that is commencing to distress and
obstacle of mind. These days students tend to lose their concentration from
studying and instead enjoy browsing on social media. All of this conveys to
wastage of time without getting anything from it. Students are often incapable of
submitting their work in the specified time frame because they are more
concentrated on applying social media platforms”.

B. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY


This study aims to have a better understanding or knowledge about this factors that
affects the academic performance of students of Grade 7- Azalea. This research
aims to discover the things that we should do to solve the factors that affects the
academic performance of students of G7-Azalea.
This research is expected to help parents and teachers to have an idea or ways to
support, teach, and guide their children or student in times their child or student
faces different problems that may affect their academic performance.

C. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY


This study is significant:
For the Student/s to have more knowledge or idea about what are those factors that
affects their performance or studies.

For the Teachers to implement new teaching methods to put more support and ease
on students, so that they can improve their academic performance.

For the Parents to have a better understanding or knowledge about the importance
of their presence and support on their child’s performance in school.

For the School to have more awareness about this problem, and so that they can
take an action by providing programs or seminars for students that talks about the
factors that affects a students academic performance.

D. LITERATURE REVIEW
According to Alegria V. Garcia “There are several factors affecting the students
academic performance. Some are home, school, teacher and student factors. Most
of the factors are home related such as family size, financial burden, parental
attitude towards education and parenting style.” (2017)
According to Alegria V. Garcia “Parents play a very important role in the process.
They should effect their presence and availability in times that the learners need
their presence. They should support and sustain the studies of their children
through financial stability. But more than that is the affection, the love and care
that students must feel so that they will be inspired to go further in their studies.”

doing homework also had slightly worse grades than students who didn’t use the
sites, possibly because this form of multi-tasking distracted students from their
work.” (2018)

education, mother’s education, family size, the motivation of parents, co-curricular
activities, the regularity of teachers etc.” (2019)
According to Kadrelin Agabao “The poor performance of the Filipino learners may
be caused by poor study habits of learners. This may due to the rise of new
technologies which divide the attention of learners in their studies. To address
these concerns and so to improve their performance in the core subjects,
motivation and engagement of learners on activities in all learning areas, close
monitoring on learners performances and remedial activities and intervention
should be facilitated taking into consideration the diversity of learners.” (2020)

related to one another. With the right kind of study skills, your child will be able to
excel both in school and in life.” (2022)

performance is huge. It enables the students to learn and retain knowledge.” (2022)

unrealistic expectations from family, set assigned goals, or other outside factors.
Whatever is the cause, performance pressure has always proven to be harmful to
the mental health of the child and thus causing a serious reduction in academic
