INTRODUCTION TO THANKSGIVING Thanksgiving is a
public holiday celebrated in November. It's a federal holiday,
so schools, banks, post offices, and government offices are
closed. Thanksgiving Day was the first holiday celebrated in
the United States. It was first celebrated in the fall of 1621
when Wampanoag Indians and pilgrims gathered for a three-
day party and fun festival. Today, families celebrate
Thanksgiving by eating a big turkey dinner and enjoying
pumpkin pie. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and NFL
football games are special Thanksgiving events. In 2014,
Thanksgiving will be on Thursday, November 27.
