BYOD (“Bring-your-own-device”)
1. Mobile device naming
To identify your devices, you can set the name of your smart devices in “Setting”.

Suggested name for mobile device


Class + Class No. + English Full name
e.g. 1A40 Chan Tai Man

1. How to change the device name?

1.1 For ipad users

1. Go to Settings > General > About > Name.

2. Tap , enter a new name, then tap Done.

1.2 For android users


General method:

1. Go to Settings > About Phone > Device Name


2. Enter the new name > Save.
*** Different devices may have slightly different method in changing name ***

2. Common apps installation


To facilitate the lessons, there are some common apps that should be installed on the tablet or
smart devices. You can download these apps on Google Play (Android) or Apps store (Ipad).

You can use the school wifi when using your mobile device to surf the internet.

2.2 Notes taking


- OneNote
- OneDrive

Other softwares that facilitates the learning may be asked to install in your device.
e.g. Edpuzzle, Kahoot!, GoodNotes, Acrobat, Padlet, Quizizz

3. Self-directed learning — Notes taking


To be a self-directed learner, note taking skill is one of the necessary skills to learn. With your
mobile devices, you can have your notes taken and organize your notes more systematically.

3.1 Common examples of notes taking apps


- Microsoft OneNote
- Good notes
- Notability

3.2 An introduction to Microsoft OneNote


You may use Microsoft OneNote for notes-taking with various
functions and save them to the Microsoft cloud with the school
account.

How to make notes using OneNote?


1. Add a new section/new page
You can add sections for each subject (e.g. CL 2022-23)
Then add pages for each chapter (e.g. Ch.2 BYOD)

The title of the page entered on the content will appear as the name of the page on the page
column.

You can also search the section and page with search function or
find the recent opened pages on the left toolbar.

2. Functions in OneNote
In OneNote, there are various functions to help you to have more efficient notes taking.
You may use the touch pen for drawing or writing on the notes.

2.1 Importing pdf files


Some lesson materials are given to you in pdf format and can be imported into OneNote for
further notes taking.

After the selection of files, you will see the pop-up window.
You should choose ”Insert as printout” for note taking
purpose.

2.2 Editing your notes

- Add drawing
→ You may use your touch pen to add drawing to the notes

More functions
→ Add shapes
→ Ruler
→ Math equation editor

2.3 Export the file as pdf file


You can export the file as a pdf file and save to Google drive.
