Active Reading and Reading Comprehension Quiz (750 words): 20%

 Will take place online through eLearn/Moodle during tutorial time in Week 5

Learning Objectives:
 demonstrate your reading comprehension skills
 develop close and creative analysis of a piece of literature

This quiz will test that students have completed and developed a nuanced understanding of
Charles Yale Harrison’s novella The Generals Die in Bed. You are expected to closely and
carefully read this novella (see section on Active Reading). The quiz will consist of 2-5 questions
that test both understanding of the novella and critical thinking about themes that are central
to the text. Students will also be expected to perform close analysis of passages from the text.
You will have 3 hours to complete the quiz but it should only take you 1.5 hours.

 Before submitting your assignment, please carefully read over the section of this course
syllabus entitled “Academic Integrity.” Remember that it is your responsibility to ensure
that you understand what constitutes academic dishonesty and plagiarism. Your
assignments must not breach any of the standards of academic integrity.
 Please note you must submit a signed/completed Academic Integrity form along with
this assignment in order for it to be graded. This form can be found in the assignment
dropbox on eLearn/Moodle.
