1. System framework
Figure 1 – standardized i‐con System framework
The picture shows the mainly framework of i‐con system:
PLC, as a controller, controls escalator operation and monitors a part of safety device.
SPC, safety controller, monitors a part of safety device, sends the fault information to the
PLC.
The board A5, A7 (CIO), monitors safety switches, sends the information to PLC.
Display board (FD), communicates with PLC and displays operation status and fault
information of escalator.

2.2 Safety SPC
Figure 3 –SPC (G9SP)
SPC, safety controller, monitors a part of safety device, sends the fault information to the PLC.
If fault is detected, SPC will stop output SO1, SO2 and cut safety circuit, escalator will be stopped
immediately.

4. Faults diagnosis and Solution
4.1 Classification and definition of fault
Faults are divided into hard error and soft error.
Hard error means error caused by safety switch opens. All other errors are called soft error.
When fault occurs, the buzzer will sound 0.5 second every second.
This system provides complete safety switches and safety devices, to form safety circuit. The safety circuit
can directly cut the power supply of contactor of main circuit and brake circuits, to ensure safe and reliable.
4.2 Description of faults and solution
The faults are divided into three types as below.
4.2.1 Soft errors monitored by PLC
After safety switch action, buzzer will continue buzzing until the safety switch reset. Fault display will still
show the last fault occurred, by pressing the reset button to reset display.
