Trig Ratios for angles between 0o and 360o.

Example 1: The angle θ is in standard position and sin θ = 4/5

Ex. 4: Given cos θ = 5 , determine two measures for θ where 0 ≤θ≤360

Ex. 5: The coordinates of a point on the terminal arm of an angle θ are given. Determine the exact
primary trigonometric ratios for θ .
a) A(-2,7) b) B(-5,-3)

Ex. 6: Use a calculator to find the values of θ to the nearest degree, where 0 °≤θ≤360 ° .

a) sin θ=−0 . 9703 b) cos θ=0 . 9848 c) tan θ=−9 . 5144

The reference angle is the same as the 1st quadrant angle. In the first quadrant ALL ratios are positive.
Therefore, remember to ignore the negative sign when using 2nd sin, cos or tan on the calculator to
find the reference (1st quadrant) angle.
