NAVIGATING THROUGH RESERCH

AND ACADEMIC HONESTY

A GUIDE FOR GUIDES

1) WHERE TO BEGIN
Introduce the importance of research to your students and
explain academic honesty.

Activity idea: bring different sources to class, ask them to

create short essays and to cite their sources; demonstrate
academic dishonesty

2) RESEARCH
Literature research through developmental phases:
1. Library, textbooks
2. Britannica school - basic definitions
3. EBSCO host - encyclopedia results and then:
books, articles
4. Google scholar - peer reviewed articles

3) REMEMBER
Reference styles are arbitrary systems and are always
changing.
IIt is always good to check the latest updates.
We agreed on using APA style (APA, 2022).
Activity idea - cover the citations checklists with
students in class.

4) IN-TEXT REFERENCES
The in-text citation appears within the body of the paper (or in a table,
figure, footnote, or appendix) and briefly identifies the cited work by its
author and date of publication (APA, 2022).
With three or more authors, write the first one's last name and "et al." (for
example: Aronson et al., 2019).
Web pages with no author are cited in text with the title of the page and
the year of publishing (for example: "The Effects of Stereotypes on Success
in School", 2023)
If the year of publishing is unknown, you simply put n.d. ("In-text citations",
n.d).

6) REFERENCE LIST
Each work cited must appear in the reference list, and each work in
the reference list must be cited in the text
