Mini Task 2.

Analyzing and Interpreting the Data

Using the data from Mini Task 1, that is the scores of Grade 7 students in the Mathematical
examination, make an analysis and interpretation of data.

A. Descriptive Analysis

Answer the questionnaire provided first. (20 points – See Rubric for short response)

Questions Answers
What is the problem of the The math scores of 50 grade 7 students are not
study? organized properly.
What is the null hypothesis? There are no significant differences among the scores of
the grade 7 students.
What type of data? Quantitative Data
What level of measurement? Percentage
What measure of central Mode
tendency will be used?

Come out now with your interpretation and analysis of data using the guide provided in this
module. (pages 17-18) (20 points- See Rubric for Short Response)

1. The Math scores of the grade 7 students were investigated. The result measured in
the study was the number of students to the number of their scores. The data are
shown in table 1.
2. The mode was chosen as the measure of the central tendency. The table showed that
the grade 7 students' mode score belongs to the score between 51-75.
3. 21 students scored from 76-100. In contrast, 24 students have a score between
51-75. The score between 26 to 50 includes 4 students and 1 student under 0-25.
4. The data did not support the hypothesis above. There were significant differences
among the scores of the grade 7 students that took the math exam.

(With rubrics for Short Response)

4 points The student has provided a response that is accurate, complete, and fulfills all the requirements of the task.
Necessary support and/or examples are included, and the information is clearly text-based.
3 points The student has provided a response that is accurate and fulfills all the requirements of the task, but the
required support and/or details are not complete or clearly text-based.
2 points The student has provided a response that includes information that is essentially correct and text-based, but
the information is too general or too simplistic. Some of the support and/or examples and requirements of
the task may be incomplete or omitted.
1 point The response is incomplete, may exhibit many flaws, and may not address all requirements of the task.
0 points The student has provided a response that is inaccurate; the response has an insufficient amount of
information to determine the student’s understanding of the task; or the student has failed to respond to the
task.
B. Hypothesis Testing

9 Steps Hypothesis Testing Example

1. Evaluate what type of data, based Type of data: Quantitative Data; Interval
on category and scale of (2 points)
measurement.

2. Review assumptions which include Not applicable

normality of the population, equality of
variances and independence of
samples.
(2 points each)
3. State the statistical hypothesis. Both Ho: There is no significant change in the math scores of
the null and alternative hypothesis. Grade 7 students.

Ha: There is a significant change in the math scores of

Grade 7 students.

Since frequency was used in data collection, the

4. Select the test statistics Chi-square test will be used.

Level of significance = 0.01

5. Determine the test of statistics Degree of Freedom = 3
From the Chi Square Table, the tabulated value is 11.346

If the computed value is lesser than the tabulated value of

6. State the decision rule which tells 11.346; accept Ho and reject Ha
you to reject the null hypothesis if the
value of test statistics computed from If the computed value is greater than 11.346; reject Ho and
the sample is in the region of accept Ha
acceptance; not to reject the null
hypothesis if the computed value is in
the region of rejection.

7. Calculate the test statistics. The computed Chi-square value is 32.72

8. Analyze the results (2 points)

32.72 is lesser than 11.346; Accept Ha and reject Ho
9. Draw your conclusion. (2 points)
There are a few Grade 7 students with low math scores.
