CASE 1: non-continuous load, ambient temp at 30 deg C damp and wet location

STEP 1:
Full load current (Ifl) = 10,000 / 230 = 43.5 A

STEP 2:
Demand current = 43.5 x 100% = 43.5 A (since load is non-continuous)

STEP 3:
Since ambient is at 30 deg C no derating of conductors ampacity

STEP 4:
Choose the wire size from PEC table from the 60 deg C rated conductors
Use 2-14 sq mm cu TW or 2-8.0 sq mm cu THW

STEP 5:
Use 50 AT 2P MCCB @10 KAIC
CASE 2: continuous load, ambient temp at 45 deg C damp and wet location
STEP 1:
Full load current (Ifl) = 10,000 / 230 = 43.5 A

STEP 2:
Demand current = 43.5 x 125% = 54.35 A (since load is continuous)

STEP 3:
Since ambient is at 45 deg C derating of conductors ampacity applies

STEP 4:
Use 2-14 sq mm THW or 2-22 sq mm TW

STEP 5:
Use 60AT 2P MCCB at 10 KAIC

STEP 6:
Use ¾” dia or 21 mm dia PVC pipe schd 40 or HDPE pipe
For 14 sq mm TW (55 amp):
= 55 x 0.87 = 47.85 A (not acceptable)

For the 14 sq mm THW (65 amp):

= 65 x 0.93 = 60.45 A (acceptable)

For the 22 sq mm TW (70 amp):

= 70 x 0.87 = 60.9 A (acceptable)
EXERCISE 1:
Solution:

STEP 1:
I = [10,000(1.25)+5,000(1.0)]/230 = 76 A

STEP 2: (assuming ambient of 30 deg C)

Use: 2-30 sq mm cu TW (85 A) or
2-22 sq mm cu THW (85 A) or
2-22 sq mm cu THHN (95 A)

STEP 3: OCPD
Use: 80 AT, 2P MCCB 10KAIC

STEP 4: PIPE SIZE

Use: 1 ¼” or 35 mm dia uPVC schd 40 or HDPE pipe

STEP 5: EGC (equipment grounding conductor)

Use: 1-8.0 sq mm cu TW or THW or THHN
