1.E.4A. Conceptual Understanding: Earth is made of different
materials, including rocks, sand, soil, and water. An Earth material
is a resource that comes from Earth. Earth materials can be
classified by their observable properties.

Introduction Estimated Time: 10 minutes

I will have the students put away their materials from the previous lesson and have them
get out the materials they will need for the next lesson like a pencil, laptop, and their
science folder to help them with the different stations. I will then give a small review
lecture to prepare them for the stations. I will then go into explaining each station. Next,
I will put up a slide of what group number they are in and tell each group what station to
start at. I will start with the first group that had the most trouble on the homework
assignment.

During this station, I will go
through all the homework
questions with them and
explain why the answer is
what it is. For each group,
I will look at the question
they missed most and
explain the correct answer
in more detail using
pictures and other tools to
help them understand. I
will also answer any
students' questions about
the earth's natural
resources during this time.
The students will also be
asked to correct their
answers if gotten wrong to
help them for future
assignment’s in this topic.
Closure Estimated Time: 10 minutes
In this station, each group
will pick one of the earth’s
natural resources. They will
choose by reaching their
hand in a bin and each slip
in the bin will have a picture
of a natural resource. They
will need to work together
and use their notes or other
assignments to explain to
me what the resource does
for the earth and why we
need it and any information
they know about this
natural resource. I would
also like them to draw a
picture under the write-up.
This will be done with a
template I printed out to
guide them through it each
group only gets one paper
so they must work together!
For this station the students
will each use their laptops
to go through the Nearpod I
would create about the
earth's natural resources.
The Nearpod will include
interactive multiple-choice
questions and open-ended
questions. Students will use
the join code in the middle
of the table to access the
Nearpod. The Nearpod will
include slides talking about
the importance of each
natural resource and after
each slide, a question about
the previous slide will be
asked to make sure they are
reading the information.
I will ask the students to raise their and tell me their favorite station. Then I will ask each
group to tell me what resources they did for the group activity and give me one fact
about it. I will then tell the students to head back to their seats and put away everything
except for their laptops. Once everyone is back at their seats I will ask if anyone has any
questions about what they learned. Then I will them open a forums link that asks
questions about the earth’s natural resources. I will have an open-ended question
explaining to me what they thought about the stations. My last question will ask the
students how confident the students are about the earth’s natural resources on a scale
from 1-5.
