DISSOLVING COFFEE IN DIFFERENT TEMPERATUES OF

WATER (HOT AND COLD)

AIM: The aim is to investigate weather or not cold water can dissolve coffee
just as fast and efficiently as hot water, vice versa. Also, to determine how to
get as much coffee to dissolve as possible

HYPOTHESIS: My hypothesis is the hot water will take less time to dissolve the
coffee. The hot waters temperature is higher therefore can melt certain ingredients
causing the coffee to dissolve faster.

EQUIPTMENT:
 2 Cups
 1 of the cups filled with cold water
 1 of the cups filled with hot water
 Coffee Powder
 Kitchen thermometer
 spoon
 Timer

RISK ASSESMENT:

touching the hot water handling hot things

METHOD: STEP 1: first fill 2 cups with water (1 with cold and 1 with hot wate r)
STEP 2:record the temperature of the hot cup and the cold cup STEP 3: in the hot
cup put 2-7 teaspoons of coffee in and let it dissolve STEP 4: time how long the coffee
takes to dissolve in hot water STEP 5: Repeat the process with hot water 3 times
STEP 6: in the cold cup put 2-7 teaspoons of coffee in and let it dissolve STEP 7: time
how long it takes for the coffee to dissolve in cold water STEP 8: take the time you
have recorded for both waters and put it into a table and graph

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q1) point 1: The experiment tested the effect of the independent

variable by changing the water temperature by 60 degrees.

Q2) This experiment is fair because I timed each of the water

temperatures exactly. And the amount of water in the cup and the
coffee stays the same.

Q3)A: the hot water took less time to dissolve in each trial.

B: This experiment proves that the hot water is more efficient in

dissolving coffee than cold water. This proves that the staff is correct
and the customer is incorrect.
CONCLUSION: In conclusion my hypothesis was correct as the hot water took less
time to dissolve the coffee is all the trials. The cold water took more time to dissolve the
coffee. The customer is incorrect as the hot water is a more efficient way to make iced
coffee as it takes less time to dissolve compared to the cold water.
