Roberts, Yaya, and Manolis (2014) found that cell phone addiction can negatively influence
academic performance as students' attention in class is disrupted because of cell phone use, and such
disruption affects their studies outside of class. Excessive mobile phone use has been associated with
distraction in the classroom (Bugeja, 2007; Campbell, 2006; Dietz & Henrich, 2014; Froese et al.,
2012; Harman & Seto, 2011; Wei & Wang, 2010). These studies reveal that in-class texting produces
