President declares heart month in promoting heart disease

awareness

In the Philippines, February is declared National Heart Month, which promotes awareness and
proper management of heart disease.

In accordance with Proclamation No. 1096 s. 1973, February, is declared to address the
growing number of heart diseases among the Filipino people.

As specified by the research conducted by Nature.com for more than three decades,
hypertension has been the leading cause of cardiovascular deaths in the Philippines.

Hypertension, widely known as high blood pressure, is the change in blood pressure depending
on the activity performed.

The Manila Bulletin lists measures to help prevent heart problems related to the promotion of
proper management and ways to control it. "Following medical advice and adhere to lifestyle
changes, regularly checking blood pressure, and reducing and managing stress" are some of
the ways to avoid hypertension, and it is also an advantage to encourage Filipinos who
experience this, especially the elders.

Moreover, when the patient's blood pressure rises above 140/90, there is a need to seek
professional advice and prescription. The Manila Bulletin also included some helpful tips that
Filipinos can do at home to take good care of their hearts. Indoor activities, stress management,
continuous medication, and consuming healthy foods are among the few practices mentioned.

Above all, the effectiveness of the prevention and promotion of practices for controlling
hypertension can be achieved through proper implementation and observation of lifestyle
changes.
