Galaxy 3 making own symbols

How to make own symbols/components in Galaxy 3

This Guide helps you create your own Electrical components symbols.
Once symbols are crated they can be attached to items in Items DB in Galaxy 3.

Create 3D symbol in CAD program

Draw a 3D symbol as you like to use in Galaxy 3 drawing:

You can use the 3D Solids toolbar like these from BricsCad.
The 3D solids can be edited with 3D Solid Editing toolbar.

The most used commands are:

Box and Cylinder. Union and Subtract are usable tools.

You can also use 2D entities, but please note that these cannot
be seen in some of the views (Side-Top-Bottom etc.)

Do NOT use complex 3D drawings, as they cannot be converted

correct to the Galaxy internal entities.

 Note:
The usable file format is .DWG
Use of complex shapes like cone, sphere, torus increases the
demands on the computer performance.

Layer to used in symbols

Layer 0 (mandatory), color RGB 175,180,186 (Dark grey)
-Used for the Visual view
Layer 1, color 0,204,0 (Green)
- Used for Workshop view

Layer 9, Color White is for Texts at the component.

Insert depth for the text depends of which view you want to see
the text. E.g. you can insert the text at DIN Rail equipment 81
mm in front of the insert point.

If you want to draw a part of the symbol in a different color, you

must still use layer 0, but use color ByEntity (Not ByLayer).
Predefined colors (= ByEntity) are here shown with yellow
marking.
You may select the other colors shown here or define your own
or use “Select color…” (Here shown 2 own colors)
True color must be set with the RGB colors (Red, Green, Blue)

Colors of the symbol

When you make the symbol, the color will follow the layer color
When using ByLayer.

The components can be made in more colors, using the ByEntity

colors.

Here is shown as example a gray cube component and a red

cylinder in top of that.
Marking the single entity you can change the color for this part.
This color is called ByEntity.
By using “Select color…” you can define your own colors. Use the
RGB defined color(s).

 Note:
To see the true colors use the SHADE command.
To return to wireframe view, use the command SHADEMODE
and select “2” (2d wireframe)

Depth of the symbol

To insert an Electrical component symbol correct in the panel,
you have to use insert points:

-On the symbol as a handle when inserting

-In the drawing where the component must be inserted

The insert point is build up of:

X-coordinate, Y-coordinate and Z coordinate.

Inserting the symbol in depth is controlled via the Z coordinate.

Door mounted components

To be able to insert the El components correct on the Door you
must do this:
-Insert point on the El component must be at same plane as the
place where it is mounted on (Front of the door).

-1) Example with insert point at bottom of the component.

-This means that the component will be inserted in front of the
door surface.

-2) Example where part of the component id in front of the door,

and part is below the door.

-The insert point defined on the component must reflect that.

Front of door

DIN Rail mounted components

Insert point in To be able to insert the El components correct on the DIN Rail
panel you must do this:
- Insert first component at left start of the DIN Rail (at the red
Front of DIN Rail snap point - Intersection)
(Intersection) - Draw a Point at right side of the component where it meets the
front of the DIN Rail
Use insert point at front of the DIN Rail. That gives the
component can be partly in front of the DIN Rail and partly below
the DIN Rail

Use this point

to make the
WBlock
drawing from
 Note:
Insert a Point here, for Point is a drawing entity from a CAD program
next item to snap to

Make the symbol

Select the symbol you want to save to a file
-Copy the symbol with insert point to 0,0,0 in the drawing

-Use “Wblock” command to create the DWG file

Example of how
See the example to the left, how to use Wblock command
to organize your -Save the drawing to the folder specified in the SYSTEM –
symbols: Company menu of Galaxy:
Symbol – 0,0,0
-Units used must be millimeters
-Select entities by pointing out entities you need
-Pick point is used as it is (0,0,0)
-Use “Delete” option when the drawing is made, ready for next
symbol to be copied to 0,0,0

-Do NOT use block to combine elements!

 Note:
All symbols of same type or purpose you make, may be
saved in the same file. The single item is saved using WBlock
command, one by one as described.

Attaching the symbol to an item

Galaxy 3 uses a DWG file to insert as drawing part.

The DWG file is selected from the Symbols folder in the Item DB.

You have to select a Dialog group and a Visual group to

determine which dialog your component will be available in.
