Simulation – Chemical Reaction

I. Introduction:

Chemical reactions occur when chemical bonds

between atoms are formed or broken. The
substances that go into a chemical reaction are
called the reactants, and the substances
produced at the end of the reaction are known as
the products. An arrow is drawn between the
reactants and products to indicate the direction of
the chemical reaction, though a chemical reaction
is not always a "one-way street."

Objectives:

a. Describe the nature of chemical reactions.

b. Distinguish the difference between reactants
and products.

II. Materials:

Reactants, Products and Leftovers - Chemical

Reactions | Limiting Reactants - PhET Interactive
Simulations (colorado.edu)

III. Procedure:

See the observation sheet.

OBSERVATION

A. 5 bread and 4
cheese
Two products of bread and cheese were produced. One
bread and two pieces of cheese are leftovers.

B. 6 bread and 3
cheese
Three product of bread and cheese were produced. There
are no leftovers.

C. 5 bread, 2 meat,
and 5 cheese
Two product of bread, meat, and cheese were produced. One
bread and three cheese are leftovers.

D. (Make water)
3 hydrogen and 2
Two h2o product were produced. 1 hydrogen and 1 oxygen
oxygen
are leftovers.

E. (Make ammonia)
2 nitrogen and 5
Two NH3 product were produced. 1 nitrogen and two
hydrogen
hydrogen are leftovers.

PROCESSING QUESTIONS

1. How do pieces of bread affect the product or form a sandwich? Do cheese and meat
also affect the product? Why or why not?

The quality and flavor of the finished dish are greatly impacted by the bread. Yes, the taste
and flavor of the product are improved by the inclusion of cheese and meat.

2. Why do you think there are necessary counts or numbers to form particular
products?

Counts or numbers could be necessary due to safety rules for particular products. Making
sure that the entire items are efficient.

3. How do you describe a chemical reaction based on the simulation?

A chemical reaction is a process that transforms one group of chemical constituents

into another. Color change, formation, and property changes are only a few of the
various observable features that can be utilized to distinguish chemical processes.
