VOLUME XXXII, ISSUE 2 SEPTEMBER 2011

Happy September Kappa Phi! I hope everyone is enjoying some cooler temperatures, and that school has gotten off to a good start for everyone! Friday night football, Saturday soccer games, and PTA fundraising all tell me that school is definitely underway. What a wonderful gathering we had in August, including a special visit from Nancy Strickland. She is getting around fine, but enjoys her resting time after being out and about. Our thanks to Nancy Shaheen's mother,Betty Shaw, for hosting us again at her house. Another thanks to Susan Price for leading some discussion about service projects this year. Please bring some school supplies if you picked up any during the recent sales, as I have heard from some of my counselor friends that they have run out of extra school supplies. Perhaps you remember that our own Nancy Shaheen is the Chairperson of the Dallas County Coordinating Council. Several chapter presidents gathered at her house to discuss the 56th annual luncheon that will be on March 31, 2012. Kappa Phi will assist her by providing center pieces for the head table following the theme of "Around the World with DKG." We will need some mementos from various states in the U.S. so please start looking around for things you might loan us to create the centerpieces. Your August newsletter contained information about why the chapter dues are increasing, due to an increase at the state level. PLEASE be prepared to pay all or half of your $85 dues at the upcoming meeting on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13! That's right - a Tuesday at Cafe Smith so we can host CFB Superintendent Dr. Bobby Burns. We need everyone in attendance who is not out of town so we can provide a room-filled reception. After he speaks we will be voting on a new member, but please feel free to bring your own guest, as well. Remember our meetings are a time to be still and be refreshed. While Dr. Burns will give us a wonderful update on our district, we can also give each other some supportive friendship and laughter about our families and jobs and hobbies. I look forward to seeing you on Sept. 13th! Tina Flatt Update from Jan about daughter Katherine: after major reconstruction of her central and lower spine, Katherine is resting and regaining strength at home - and Jan is enjoying being both nurse to Katherine and Mimi to active, inquisitive, adorable Avery. It will be many weeks until Katherine is back to normal, but with all the repairs and new hardware, she should be out of pain and back on her feet again (with a much straighter back) in a few more months. Many thanks to all who have been praying and sending positive thoughts, because they are really working!

News From the Personal Growth and Services Committee

The Community Service Project for September is to collect School Supplies for our very own Metrocrest Social Services. At our August meeting it was determined that we should start collecting items now, since backto-school sales are still in progress. Find your good deals and bring them to the meeting on Tuesday, September 13th. The survey results are in and the consensus of many was a desire to take time at a meeting to work on a community service project. We plan to do this at our January meeting more details to come. Technology Tips
For all things Delta Kappa Gamma, dont forget the following websites: Texas State Organization website: www.alphastatetexas.org Delta Kappa Gamma Society International: www.dkg.org They will help you with any information regarding Delta Kappa Gamma, such as forms, deadlines, scholarship information, etc. And dont forget our own website: www.kappaphitexas.weebly.com. It has current chapter information, newsletters, the yearbook, and links to other Delta Kappa Gamma information. Please feel free to send suggestions for other information to include on the website to Celeste at: celrob2@sbcglobal.net. If you are prompted for a password once you are on the website, the password is. The yearbook that is currently on the website is the one for 2010-2011; however, Laura is working on the yearbook, and when it is completed, it will be published online. Remember some basic safety precautions when opening e-mail:

Never click on links that look suspicious. You can roll your mouse over a link to check the name of the website in the lower part of your e-mail. Foreign countries are usually part of the name, though not always (i.e., ru for Russia). Only click on links you recognize as reputable. Spam e-mails often do not have a textjust a link. Hijacked e-mail addresses look like they are from someone you know, but really are not. If suspicious, do not click on that link.
