Five Fingers Cove

Location: Mariveles, Bataan

Description: Five Fingers is one of the unspoiled destinations in the province of Bataan. It features a
series of coves that offer a breathtaking view and a different kind of travel experience. You can find here
several natural structures like cliffs, caves, big rocks and a lot more.

The tourist destination is called Five Fingers because the aerial view resembles five fingers spread out,
each with stunning rock formations.

For those who love water adventures, Five Fingers is the place to be. You can enjoy cliff jumping (40 ft.),
snorkeling, swimming, caving, rock climbing and cove-to-cove adventures. The whole place is also
perfect for photography. You can find here a lot of Insta-worthy spots that can be used for your social
media accounts. It feels like you are in Batanes from the top of the mountain cliffs. Not to mention,
fine Bataan’s white sand beaches are just a boat ride from this spot.

📍Apatot bat cave.

The best time to visit Five Fingers in Mariveles, Bataan, is during dry season. This is from December to
May. I recommend scheduling between December to February to avoid the boom of tourist in summer.
The Thumb

The thumb of the Five Fingers called Cochino's Point is only a 25-minute boat ride away from the
Miraveles Port.

A hike, however, is involved in order to reach the top of the island.

According to the island's tour guide, the island was named after the Spanish word, Cochino, which
means pig in English; the island resembles the shape of a pig from an aerial view.

The island is home to numerous eagles, thanks to an environment ideal and healthy for their habitation.

There is little vegetation during summer — thank you, wild fires — but come September, the island
flourishes once again. See green sprouts everywhere!

But the sad thing: Despite its cleanliness, trash finds its way to the island. Five Fingers, after all, is part of
Manila Bay.

The Index and Middle Finger

In between Five Finger's index and middle fingers is Talaga Beach, known for its beautiful waters fit for
snorkelling.

Aside from a cave that appears during low time — which visitors can enjoy, mind — the island is also
home to numerous rock formations that come in all shapes and sizes.

For the adventurous, the cove can also be used for cliff diving.

The Ring Finger

The ring finger of the Five Fingers is called the Naiclec Point where rock formations in the shape of frogs
can be seen.

Aside from capturing this rare nature's gem, the cove can also be for swimming and snorkeling.

The Pinky Finger

Lastly, the pinky finger aka Longos Kawayan, a popular destination for soon-to-be husbands and wives.

It's a popular prenup photoshoot destination since the area is just thriving with creative backgrounds
and concepts such as the possibility of looking as if you're walking on water. Couples can climb on top of
the rock formations and pose as if they were in Titanic.

Locals just give precaution since some of the rocks break easily and are not ideal to be climbed.
Intertext (Local Myth / Legend)

Another legend talked about a forbidden love story between a beautiful lass named Maria Velez and a
priest from nearby Manila. The two eloped that took them to a lush forest at the tip of a peninsula
across the Manila Bay corridor. Authorities from Manila caught up and separated the lovers. Maria Velez
carried on to be a monk and the priest was banished to a far flung village in Mexico. Immortalizing this
legend, the lush forest was named Mariveles, after the lady monk.
