Korean Drama to Food

Most Filipino love Korean dramas, this famous "Korean Novellas" that Filipino channels
dub to the Philippine native language so that every Filipino can enjoy this drama without
worrying about the language barrier. It is popular because of its aesthetical effects and intriguing
stories. People cannot deny the growing influence of Korean drama, just like the culture of food.
The emerging Korean restaurants in the Philippines are the evidence that Filipinos enjoy the
influence that Korean dramas' culture brings ("How have Korean dramas influenced Philippine
industry," 2018).

Korean drama's growing influence could be conjoined to the viewers; other dramas
showcases dishes that whet the viewer's appetite that may cause temptation to try the food that
the dramas showcases. According to (이 미 옥, 2018), the result of their research shows that the
Korean wave is the leading cause for their preference for buying Korean food while the K-drama
wave is just the second cause. Their research still shows that K-drama influences the preference
of why people buy and arouse the interest in it, but it also shows that K-drama still needs
improvement to top the list. An example of K-drama that influences food is the drama
(Daejanggeum). The theme of this Korean TV series is all about food and cooking. The study of
(Kim, Kim, Agrusa, Lee, 2012) shows that (Daejanggeum) influences the food culture and
business of Korea and the tourism of the country. This study pertains that a culture can be shared
and influence just by watching a drama or TV show.

The aesthetically pleasing effects that K-drama's shows to viewers significantly affect
why the dishes or food that the K-dramas display tempts the viewers to buy it, also because of
the great actors that shows how delicious the dishes they try. (Cosmopolitan PH, 2020) have
gathered a list of most long for K-drama food; "Ramyeon, Korean Beef, Samgyupsal, Fish cake,
Kimchi, Kimbap, Bibimbap, Tteokbokki, Mandu, Sundae, Jjajangmyeon, Japchae, Marinated
Crabs, Seaweed Soup, Korean Fried Chicken, Bungeo-ppang, Yakgwa, Banana Milk, Soju, and
Hangover Soup." These dishes are the most frequent food that most people will see on a K-
drama. The only downside of this is that some of the dishes are hard to find in some countries
and are not available.

Korean cuisine has now been propagating all around the world. Through K-drama's direct
and indirect influence, many people are now conscious about the Korean culture and its taste.
However, there is still a gap through this researches to improve those gaps it’s also better to be
aware of the various conditions of the respective target country and audience. The studies that
are part of this paper have significant roles to understand and provide facts and evidence to
Korean drama's influence on the food culture of people.
