Organization Structure
The organizational structure is the formal framework of control, communication,
roles, and responsibilities within an organization. It exemplifies how tasks are
divided, coordinated, and managed to achieve the organization's objectives.

There are several types of organizational structures:

1. Functional structure
2. Divisional structure
3. Matrix structure
4. Flat structure
5. Hierarchical structure

Decathlon Sports
Decathlon is a 1976-founded French sporting goods retailer. The company creates,
manufactures, and sells sports equipment and clothing for a variety of sports and
activities such as cycling, running, football, hiking, and water sports. Decathlon
operates over 1,600 stores in over 60 countries, making it one of the world's largest
sporting goods retailers.

Decathlon Organisation Structure

Decathlon is a worldwide sporting goods retailer with over 70 locations. Decathlon's
organization culture is decentralized, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and
innovation. Decathlon's organizational structure is flat.

Here is an overview of the organizational structure of Decathlon:

1. Board of Directors: At the highest level, there is a Board of Directors that
oversees the company's strategic direction and provides guidance to the
CEO.

2. CEO: The CEO is in charge of the company's day-to-day operations and

ensures that its goals and objectives are met.

3
3. Business Units: Decathlon is divided into several business units, each of
which focuses on a different sport or product category, such as running,
cycling, or camping. Each business unit is led by a Business Unit Manager
(BUM), who is accountable for the unit's overall performance.

4. Departments: Each business unit has several departments, such as product

design, sourcing, marketing, and logistics, each of which is led by a
department head who is in charge of managing the team and ensuring that
the department meets its objectives.

5. Project Teams: Because Decathlon places a strong emphasis on teamwork

and collaboration, project teams are formed around specific projects or
initiatives and are made up of members from various departments and
business units. This approach promotes greater innovation and cross-
functional learning.

Overall, the organizational structure of Decathlon is intended to encourage

innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity. By focusing teamwork and
decentralization, Decathlon can remain agile and adapt quickly to changing
market conditions.
