“Pros and Cons of Social Media on Education.”

Jallane: Before we start the presentation for our title defense, let us first seek the presence of
our Lord.
*prayer*

Inigo: A pleasant afternoon everyone especially to our dear panelist! Millions of people all over
the world witness evolution in their daily life. The advent of modernization has made the use of
gadgets as an everyday necessity for everybody. No one can deny the effect of technology on
the different aspects of people’s lives such as in education that has undergone different
changes. This has also given rise to the increase in the number of students related to social
media usage as an educational tool. For that reason, we researchers have come up with a study
entitled “Pros and Cons of Social Media on Education.”

Kenshin: Thank you for that wonderful introduction. We would like to start by introducing
ourselves. My name is Kenshin Anne T. Valdez.

Jallane: My name is Jallane Airell S. Pongco.

Inigo: I’m Inigo Joaquin D. Relucio.

Gabriel: My name is Gabriel L. Lapuz.

Paul: Hi, I’m Paul Jeric Isorena.

Casey: Hi, I’m Casey Dale G. Siatong.

Earl: And I’m Earl John S. Ombina.

Casey: Let us first discuss the background information about our study. Schools around the
world have adopted a mix of distance learning, and social media seems to be a big part of it.
From student and teacher chat rooms to class pages that act as bulletin boards, social media
has become an essential part of today's learning. There must be a reason why the use of social
media is so prevalent in today's academic setting. Its advantages are undeniable. There's a lot
to be gained from using social media for students. On one side, social media provides a great
way for students and teachers to connect. On the other hand, they can be a weapon of
malicious behavior. Social media makes it easier for students to abuse or bully their peers or
even their teachers.

Gabriel: To continue, these are the key terms of our study. The first key term is social media.
Social media consists of websites and applications that allow users to create or share ideas,
information and interests through virtual networks and communities. The second key term is
pros and cons. Pros are the advantages of something in favor of making a decision. While cons
are the disadvantages of something. The last key term is education. Education is the process of
learning or the acquisition of knowledge, values, and skills.

Jallane: We chose this topic because we know that everyone in this generation can relate to this
kind of study and we all use social media in our everyday life. We also chose this topic to raise
awareness to people who are interested in this topic and even us researchers about how social
media affects our education.

Valdez: The importance of this study is to identify the impact of social media on the education
of the students in different aspects. Our goal is to determine the effectiveness and
disadvantages of social media on the students.

Inigo: Now, who will benefit this study and how can it help the beneficiaries? It will be a huge
benefit to all students especially in online classes today, parents and teachers. In this way, we
can all look into how and what makes social media very time consuming and its positive and
negative effects on our lives as students.

Paul: The students, parents, teachers and us researchers will be affected by this study. The
students will be the main target for this study because we are talking about education, and with
that, teachers and parents can be also affected. The teachers and parents will know the
negative and positive effects of social media on their students and children. And as researchers
and students, it will help us to discover the different effects of social media on our education.

Earl: As a student, we can relate to this study because we use social media in everyday life, in
education, for entertainment and it also relates to our learning skills as a student.

Valdez: This topic is relevant because during the pandemic, social media has been one of the
most important things that students use for educational purposes however, despite its
effectiveness, it carried a negative effect on the learning of students. The relevance of social
media in academic processes has been increasingly visible in higher education settings as it
enhances their instruction and promotes active learning for students.

Jallane: Our independent variable is social media because it affects our dependent variable.
While the dependent variable is education because it is the one who is affected by social media
which is our independent variable.

Casey: For the instrument that we will use, we are planning to survey some selected students
from grade 7-10 by the use of technology, and we will use a questionnaire.

Inigo: There are limitations in our study for we only aim to examine the pros and cons of social
media towards the students. This study covers a large amount of components but we are only
taking a portion such as identifying the effect of social media towards education.

Gabriel: And for the result, we are expecting that the results will show accurate data for the
purposeful integration of social media as an educational tool.

Inigo: And that brings us to the end. We sincerely appreciate your time and attention for our
proposed title.
