About Community Healthcare Systems
- Community Healthcare Systems (CHCS) is a
federally qualified health center that aims to
provide medical care to everyone.

- History: The first office opened in the year of


1995.
- Services: Internal medicine, women’s health,
behavioral health, podiatry, & family planning
- CHCS staff: receptionists, medical assistants,
nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and
health educators
- Patients at CHCS come from a variety of
socioeconomic backgrounds, races, and ethnicities

Summary of Survey Results
● Many employees stated that they believe that exercise is very important to them in
helping to maintain a healthy lifestyle. However many are not getting the adequate
amount of exercise that is needed.
● The main reason that keeps employees from exercising on a daily basis is a lack of
time. Some employees stated that by the time they get home from work they are
tired and don’t have the energy to exercise.
** Walking was the most favored physical activity among the employees.
● Many employees favor exercising outside compared to going to the gym.
● Some employees said that if they had an accountability/ workout partner they would
be more motivated to exercise.

Goal #1: Increase employees’ knowledge of the importance of exercise in improving health
and preventing obesity.
- Objective: By the end of April 2023, employees will understand how to stretch and
engage in aerobic activities.
- Objective: By the end of April 2023, employees will know the recommended exercise
guidelines for adults.
Goal #2: Encourage employees to apply the information learned from my project to their
everyday lives.
- Objective: By the end of April 2023, employees will understand practical ways to
increase their physical activity.
- Objective: By the end of April 2023, employees will create a SMART goal to help them
stick to a regular exercise routine.

Public Health Issue: Obesity
● In the United States, approximately one-third of adults are living with
obesity.

● “Obesity is an excessive fat accumulation in adipose tissues and is


defined by a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 and above” (Niemiro, G.
M., Rewane, A., & Algotar, A. M. (2022).

● One of the key factors in losing weight is to decrease the presence of


body fat.

Moderate Intensity vs Vigorous Physical Activity
● Moderate-Intensity Aerobic activities increase your heart rate
and sweating may occur
- How to know: An individual will be able to maintain a
conversation
● Vigorous-Intensity Aerobic activities cause you to sweat as well
as breathe harder and faster. Also, vigorous activities cause your
heart rate to significantly increase.
- How to know: An individual won’t be able to maintain a
conversation without pausing to take a breath
Moderate-Intensity vs. Vigorous Physical Activity

- Walking fast

- Riding a bike on level ground

- Playing tennis

Practical ways to increase your physical activity
● Take half of your lunch break to walk
● Get up early and exercise in the morning
● Park further away at stores
● Take the stairs instead of the elevator
● Join a gym and find a fitness partner
● Use YouTube to find at-home workouts
Exercise Activity
● Warm Up:
- 20 jumping jacks
● Exercises:
1. Rotating toe touches
2. Flyouts
- 1 set of 15 reps for each exercise
● Stretch: Upper body stretch
- 30 secs on each arm
