OUTLINE
 Topic: Tteokbokki
 Title: Delicious Korean rice cake, Tteokbokki
 General statement:
Korea has many kinds of side dishes. One of the most popular Korean dish is Tteokbokki,
or simmered rice cake. tteokbokki is served with minimal garnish and side
ingredients. It is also eaten between sips of cold, cheap beer or soju for the perfect
meal.
 Thesis Statement:
Tteokbokki has become the soul food of Korea that has four distinctiveness namely,
various texture, different size and shape, yummy taste, and three famous variants.

Major 1: Firstly, the various textures of tteokbokki are denser, chewy and bouncy, silky and stretchy
texture that you can find in Korean restaurants or Korean street food.

Minor 1.1: Combination of rice flour with tapioca starch, water, and salt makes it has denser texture
that is commonly eaten by Korean (Lisa, 2021).

Minor 1.2: The denser texture is made so that customers can be full longer even they only eat
tteokbokki.

Minor 1.3: Denser tteokbokki can be the right choice if you’re busy person who doesn’t have time to
eat big meal.

Minor 1.4: Chewy and bouncy texture of it is produced by rice flour, cornstarch, fine salt, and
boiling water (Sue, 2022).

Minor 1.5: The chewy and bunchy texture is liked by many ages.

Minor 1.6: This texture is very delectable among other textures.

Minor 1.7: Silky and stretchy texture is got by pounding steamed mixture of non-glutinous rice flour and
water, this texture is used in famous Korean street food (AsiaSociety, 2022).
Minor 1.8: The silky and stretchy texture is enjoyable when it enters in our mouth.

Major 2: Different size and shape of tteokbokki will determine the process of eating it.

Minor 2.1: It is formed into a variety shapes such as short, round, chubby that makes easier to chew it
(Chichi wang, 2019).

Minor 2.2: You just need one bite to eat short and round size of tteokbokki.

Minor 2.3: The chubby one can create our mood better when it goes to your throat.

Minor 2.2: The small and cylindrical tteokbokki sizes are the main character of this dish between
other ingredients that go into your tongue (Eveyln Brutz, 2021).
Minor 2.4: The small and cylindrical size will need two until three times to chew and then you can
swallow it.

Minor 2.3: The diameter of tteokbokki can be about ½ inch and usually 5-inch length that is commonly
found in market or restaurants (L P, 2011).

Major 3: Thirdly, yummy taste of tteokbokki is spicy and salty, sweet and super filling, and savory
(Stephanie, 2021).

Minor 3.1: The taste is like in paradise which is spicy and salty when you put on your tongue (Andrea,
2020).

Minor 3.2: It’s going to be sweet and super filling which comes from soy sauce and sugar that will be
giving a hit in your mouth (Caroline, 2022).

Minor 3.3: It can also be eaten by poor people because it is cheap food, flavorful dish and savory meal
(Kim Chihon,2021).
Major 4: Lastly, three famous variants of tteokbokki are divided into rose or creamy and spicy tteok-
bokki, gunjung or slightly flavored tteokbokki, and jajang or salty tteokbokki (Wikipedia, 2021).

Minor 4.1: Rose tteok-bokki has been trending in 2021 in South Korea, and available in many tteokbokki
places, the combination of creamy and spicy is astonishingly tasty, and sellers often top it with sausage,
bacon and quail eggs since it’s so rich and creamy, once you eat it, you’ll find that it takes you at least a
month to crave it again (dailycal, 2022).

Minor 4.2: Gungjung tteokbokki is the old-style variety of tteokbokki, different from today’s red spicy
variety, this traditional variety is slightly flavored with a soy sauce based sauce (koreanbapsang, 2021).

Minor 4.3: Jajang-tteokbokki is made from chunjang, a Korean salty black soybean paste which is stir-
fried with green onions, onion, pork and mixes with chewy tteokbokki that makes a really nice combo
with a chewy texture and savory sauce (chopsticksandflour, 2019).

In summary, various texture, different size and shape, yummy taste, and three famous variants are the
distinctiveness of Korean honored food which is called tteokbokki.
