Quadratic Functions & Graphs

Why do we need it?

Many real-life problems can be modeled by quadratic
functions and related problems can be solved using
quadratic equations.
For example, in physics, quadratic models are used to solve
problems involving motion of objects such as a ball or a
rocket that are projected directly upwards.
In finance, the formulation of quadratic equations to solve
maximization of profit and maximization of cost helps
business men and women make informed decisions.

Let’s have a short review
5

Recap (Quadratic Expression)

● A quadratic expression is an
expression that consists of
● algebraic terms
● operation symbols +, −, ×, ÷
● brackets
● A quadratic expression has no
equal sign.
6

Recap (Quadratic Expression)

● A general form of a quadratic

expression in one variable is…
● 𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐
● where 𝑥 is the variable
● 𝑎, 𝑏, and 𝑐 are constants and a = 0
