Comments on Domain 1: Planning and Preparation

This section is more about the Lesson Plans and Prep. The importance is really twofold. YOU and the students.

Knowing what you are doing and thinking of expected outcomes is very important. This allows you the exibility

to monitor the lesson and make subtle changes during or after the lesson. If there is a time where you are

questioned about a lesson or strategies used, you have something to explain your process and reasoning.
Practice and rehearse new lesson plans or subject areas. Like Math that’s coming up….be sure to study the

lessons and think of delivery to the students. Use the curriculum as a platform, then bring your understanding in

ways to get the students to understand.

Comments on Domain 2: The Classroom Environment

It was clear to see that you have been in front of the classroom for some time. Both you and the students were in

good relaxed learning environment. Students responded to the directions and helped each other in the process. I

liked how you used a simple strategy to regain their attention. Make mental notes on how often you need to do

that. Too many times might indicate a bigger need to change expectations for the students. Classroom behavior is

also handled by establishing good relationships with the students. I liked how you welcomed students coming into

the room and commenting on their Red/White/Blue or checked in with homework from last night.

Comments on Domain 3: Instruction

Spelling! You do a nice job of organizing and explaining the directions. Assuming that students already practiced

synonyms and antonyms, maybe do one of each section to provide an example of each. Have a word already

picked out to share. The use of the book dictionary was in the plan, the request of computer use from the students
was valid. Wondering if you thought that they might ask to use the computer and if you were prepared for a

response?

Standards: 9I and 10G

Comments on Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities

In thinking about re ecting on your teaching, when Jenny drops in on your lesson, is it something that you might
have been thinking or even not even thinking about. Meaning, sometimes what’s going on in the classroom you may

be comfortable with and she might not? As you continue with Spelling, look for additional approaches and delivery

to the lesson or worksheet. Just to change of the routine once in a while. It was great to see you in front of the

classroom. I’ve always enjoyed creating and planning, then watching it happen with students. Question, what is the

service project that the class is working on?

Overall Comments:

A great rst observation! Nice group of students. I know you’ve been already taking on more instruction, so it will be
more challenging when new subjects or lessons come that you have not yet taught. Continue to watch student
progress and think about your learning target and what you are wanting students to be able to accomplish.
Sometimes, less is more. Give time for students to process and be ready to provide more for those who work faster.
Keep growing in the process.
