THE 19TH CENTURY PHILIPPINES

The Filipinos in the 19th century had suffered from feudalistic and master-slave
relationships by the Spaniards. The highest class the people that belong in this class
include the Spaniards, peninsulares, and the friars. They have the power and authority
to rule over the Filipinos. The social culture is ranked into three groups at that time, The
Highest class are the people that belong in this class include the Spaniards,
peninsulares, and the friars. They have the power and authority to rule over the
Filipinos. They enjoyed their positions and do what they want, Middle class is the
natives, the mestizos, and the criollos. And lastly, the lower class and we Filipinos are in
this class. At that time it was shown that the priest were powerful that time for they
have close connections with the Spanish government as well as they have enough

wealth. Filipinos were living in fear because of the cruelty of the Spaniards that is
why, some of them were living in mountainous area to hide themselves. The way of living
is really that hard if you are at the lowest class, The way of transportation is their horses
or their kalesa and boats. Filipinos have adapted the food, some cultures and costumes
of different countries because of trading. Filipinos in the movie are strong minded
and kind they have the guts to live a life during the Spanish colonization. Filipinos
are really having a bad life when the Spaniards take over the Philippines and made us
all slaves, they can do whatever they want to us because they have the power. As
represented in the film Being a Filipino means being willing to serve and accept
responsibility, a responsibility of being a defender of our own land and our fellowmen,
There are many various faces of Filipinos at that time they are the warriors, travelers,
bandits, artists, masters, slaves, prisoners, poor, and many more. The revolution also
helped in determining Filipino identity which unified the Filipino people that became an
instrument in attaining our own independence.
In my own opinion The film made a big impact on the people who are watching
now, Based from the title Ganito kami noon, Paano kayo ngayon we can say that it is far
from how they lived at that time than today, The Filipinos that time helped us to attain
the independence that we are having right now. I realized that Filipinos at that time is a
person who still look back and return to his origin despite its poor conditions. They tend
to look at each other. In the film Kulas has learned that being Filipino is not only
reflected in appearance or external qualities, but also in the heart, and mind of a person,
but some of the Filipinos who have a good life even calls the one below them Indios just
to state that they are not equals. It should be your fellow countrymen that will help you
out in times of trouble, but in reality, they are the ones who aspire for you to stumble
and fall just for them to succeed, This traits of a Filipino is being experienced at our time
and I think we should not practice that. If ill be the one that is living at that time I’ll try to
be brave and patient on the people looking down on me, and ill prove to then that I can
still live the way that I am and will try hard to help other Filipino to attain the
independence. I’m a Filipino and Im willing to take responsibilities and will do everything
to make our country good.

In this movie I’ve got the answers of who are the Filipinos, what do the do at that
time to attain our independence. The film shows the transition of administration from
Spaniards to Americans. It consistently contains and portrays lives of the Filipino in the
colonization of the Spaniards. The one I liked from the movie was how the Level of
Kulas’ happiness decreased all throughout his journey. As he continued in his uncertain
adventure, Kulas seems to be happy person even if he lost so much in his life. I also
wanted to conquer the world , During years of my education I am not exposed to the
true face of our society, Meeting and Interacting new people with different attitudes
made me realiz that there is more to explore in this world. After watching the movie I
realized how grateful iam with what I have With all this changes in front of my eyes. I
realized that the more you know about how things work, the more you learn that our
society is very cruel place to live in. I had a lot of fun watching this film I learned that
being a Filipino is such a pleasure knowing that our ancestors fought the independence
of this nation that we are experiencing right now. Their Brave heart and the Undying
Love for this country wis what makes us free today.
