Mass media communication has an urgent need for expressive means. All
linguistic means are expressively significant in journalism, as they embody
the journalistic idea. The main principle of mass media journalism is its
"openness", direct, direct expression of the author's position. The language
of periodicals almost always has an emotional and personal character.
News discourse uses a variety of vocabulary and phraseology, thus
reflecting the social multifaceted nature of modern language. In the news
discourse, figurative means, phraseological turns, proverbs, catchphrases
are widely represented.
