Learning Outcome: The pre-service teachers are able to develop cognitive skills i.e.
reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving and imagination through
collaborative learning.
Mechanics
1. The contest is open to all participating teams from the five (5) houses.
2. Each participating team should be composed of a minimum of twenty (20) and a maximum of
thirty (30) members.
3. The performance must be at least forty (40) seconds and shall not exceed one (1) minute
including the entrance and exit.
4. The use of body props are allowed whereas drums and other instruments are strictly prohibited.
5. Profanity and other inappropriate language are strictly prohibited.
6. The committee has prepared an official timer to take note of the time consumed by each
participating houses.
7. Failure to comply with the above-mentioned guidelines means ten (10) points deduction from
the total accumulated points.

Amazing Race Mechanics

1. The contest is open to all participating houses.


2. Each participating team should be composed of ten (10) members: three (3) major in English,
three (3) major in Mathematics. And four (4) BEED students.
3. Each team will be given an assigned color for identification purposes.

4. The participants should assemble at the SIIT ground during the assigned date and time.
5. Smartphone, smart watch or any gadgets and paraphernalia are not allowed.
6. The race has 9 challenge locations, called pit stops, scattered at the different locations around
the Main Campus.
7. Each of the station represents one General Education (GE) course.
8. At each stop, an assigned facilitator is responsible for coordinating the challenge and clues for
that location. When a team arrived at a pit stop, the captain will give the team the written
details on the challenge to be completed.
9. At any time, once the team successfully completes the challenge, the facilitator will give the clue
for the next station.
10. Each team will be given a ribbon after they have answered the questions in order for the
facilitator to identify that they are allowed to move to the next station.
11. At the end of the race, results will be evaluated based on the time of each of the teams
consumed in the race.
12. A team will be disqualified if, for whatever reason, a team member is not able to continue with
the game. No alternates will be allowed once the race has started.
13. The last three groups with the small amount of time consumed on the race will be declared as
winners. Prizes awaits the winners.

Quiz Bee Mechanics

1. The contest is open to all participating teams from the five (5) houses.
2. Each participating team should be composed of five (5) members.
3. The coverage of the quiz includes all Professional Education courses.
4. The teams will be provided with illustration boards in where they will be writing their answers.
5. All teams will answer the same set of questions in writing. Before the question is read, the
teams must raise their markers or chalk.
6. There will be three (3) components in the competition namely: Elimination Rounds (Easy),
Semi-Final Round (Average) and the Final Round (Difficult).
7. The elimination round has ten (10) questions worth 2 points each, the semi-final round has eight
(8) questions worth 3 points each, and the final round has five (5) questions worth 5 points each.
8. In the elimination round, only the top three (3) teams will move to the semi-final round.
9. At the end of the semi-final round, only top 2 teams will move to the final round.
10. The questions will be read by the quizmaster twice.
11. After the second (2nd) reading, the quizmaster shall say “Go”, only then the teams will be
allowed to write their answers. Automatically, the ten (10) seconds time-limit will begin with the
word “go” by the quizmaster.
12. After the time-limit, the teams must stop writing and must raise their answers.
13. The quizmaster shall read and verify the teams’ answer.
14. The team who gets the highest number of points is automatically declared the champion or the
runner-up as the case may be.
15. The ranking of winners are as follows: Quiz Bee Champion and 2 nd Place.

Spelling Bee Mechanics

1. The competition is open to the five houses.


2. Each house must have one (1) contestant.
3. There will be three (3) level for this contest namely the easy, average, and difficult rounds.
4. Each level has 5 words to be spelled correctly.
5. The contestants have 10 seconds to answer each word in the easy round, 20 seconds for the
average round, and 30 seconds for the difficult round.
6. The moderator will read the word twice, give its definition and will use it in a sentence.
7. Five contestants will compete for the easy round then the scores will be tallied, the contestant
with the lowest score will be eliminated.
8. Four contestants shall proceed to the average round where the two contestant with the lowest
scores will be eliminated; the remaining two contestants will compete for the difficult round.
9. Contestants must write the word after the “Go” signal. The contestant who will start writing
without the “go” signal will be disqualified to answer for that specific turn until the next word is
given.
10. Erasures are strictly not allowed. An answer with erasures will be automatically considered
incorrect.
11. For every correct spelling, the team will be given one point for all the rounds.
12. A team who has the highest points at the end of the difficult round will be proclaimed as the
spelling master.

British Parliamentary Debate Mechanics

1. Qualifying Round

a. For this round, each team should have four speakers, namely: Prime Minister, Deputy
Prime Minister, Member of Government and Government Whip.
b. A motion will be given and each team shall give arguments for the Proposition.
c. Each speech should not exceed three (3) minutes with no window for POI.
d. The scores for each speaker will be collectively tallied, the team with the lowest score
will be eliminated.

2. Tournament

a. The four remaining teams shall be divided into two where one team shall be the
proposition whereas the other shall take on the opposition.
b. The team’s position shall be determined by drawing it by lots which will be done by the
PM or LO.
c. If the team is the proposition, the speaker are as follows:
i. Prime Minister
ii. Deputy Prime Minister
iii. Member of Government
iv. Government Whip
d. If the teams is the opposition, the speaker are as follows:
i. Leader of Opposition
ii. Deputy Leader of Opposition
iii. Member of Opposition
iv. Opposition Whip
e. Each speaker is given a maximum of three (3) minutes to deliver their speech.

4. Motion

a. The motion is the statement that serves as the topic for the debate.
b. The motion is announced by the chairperson at the beginning of the debate.
c. The motion is generally phrased in a way that allows for both sides to take a stance and
argue their position

Criteria
1. Content: The quality and strength of the arguments presented, the coherence of
the case, the relevance of the arguments to the motion, the clarity and accuracy 30%
of the evidence presented, and the depth and breadth of the analysis.
2. Strategy: The ability to respond effectively to the other team’s arguments, the
overall coherence and logic of the argument, the ability to prioritize and allocate 20%
time effectively and the ability to construct and deliver a compelling narrative.
3. Style: The clarity, fluency, and expressiveness of the speaker, the ability to engage
the audience and build rapport, the use of rhetorical techniques and persuasive 20%
devices, and the appropriate use of humor and wit.
4. Relevance: The ability to stay on topic and address the motion effectively, the
ability to avoid irrelevant or tangential arguments, and the ability to frame 20%
arguments within the context of the larger debate.
5. Etiquette: The ability to conduct oneself professionally and respectfully
throughout the debate, the ability to respond graciously to interruptions or points 10%
of information, and the ability to adhere to the rules and conventions of the
debate format.

Wacky Debate Mechanics

1. Each houses should have one (1) participant.


2. The participant will be provided with humorous question or motion with 2 choices wherein they
have to defend their chosen answer.
3. The Wacky Debate is composed of the Elimination Round, Qualifying Round and Championship
Round.
4. For the Elimination Round, all of the participants are given only maximum of one (1) minute to
defend their choice. The speaker with the lowest score will not forward to the next round.
5. For the Qualifying Round, the four speakers will draw by lots for their opponent and their
position: proposition or opposition.
6. A motion will be presented and the speaker has to provide a speech/rationalization for their
position that should not exceed two (2) minutes. The speaker with the lowest score will not
forward to the next round.
7. For the Championship Round, the two remaining speakers will have to deliver a speech about
the given motion that should not exceed three (3) minutes. Only one motion will be given and
the second speaker will be isolated.
8. At the end of their argument, the proclamation of the winner will be announced by the judges.

Math Trail Mechanics

1. Each team per category shall compose of 4 members: one (1) student from each grade level (1 st
– 4th year).
2. All members of the team must have an object/thing for easy identification. Only ballpoint pen or
sign pen is allowed to be used in solving all the problems.
3. Borrowing or lending of calculators between or among teams is strictly prohibited and is a
ground for automatic disqualification.
4. Coaches/advisers are not allowed to enter the contest area nor help their team otherwise they
will be disqualified.
5. Bringing or using of mobile phones, or any gadgets is not allowed during the competition. Each
team is required to bring calculator and all forms of measuring devices.
6. The competition is composed of 6 checkpoints of stations. A station contains important
information needed to answer a particular problem given by the station commander. Every
team must get whatever data/information that each station may provide.
7. The competition is good for two (2) hours, inclusive of the data gathering and answering of the
contest problems.
8. Initially, all the teams will be assigned to go to a designated checkpoint by the Base
Commander.
9. Each team must read their instruction carefully about what ought to be done in a checkpoint.
10. The team will gather all the available information data necessary to answer the problem in the
station.
11. Each team will stay in a checkpoint for an allotted time of 15 minutes. The designated Station
Commander will announce the starting and ending time for the team to be in a particular
station.
12. There should be no more than 2 teams allowed to be in one checkpoint. In the event a team has
finished gathering date before the allotted time, then they can go to another vacant checkpoint.
If no checkpoint is available, then the team has to wait until the other team leaves or moves out
from the checkpoint.
13. As soon as the buzzer rings, the teams will submit their paper immediately to the Station
Commander, and then proceed to the next station. Note: Units of measurement must always
be indicated in the final answer whether it is specified or not in the question. Final answer
must be encircled. Failure to do so is considered as null and void) .
14. No member of the team is allowed to mark, erase, deface, tear, crease, add or alter any figures,
arrangements, and lines position of any materials placed in each station for the purpose of
measurement. Any member of the team who is caught violating this rule means automatic
disqualification of the whole team.
15. The decision of the Board of Judges is irrevocable and final.

Character Impersonation Mechanics

1. Each house should have one (1) contestant.


2. The contestant shall portray/impersonate a character from pop culture (character from any
movie, music, artist, singer, television/movie star/video games, sports, entertainment news,
fashion and various technology only).
3. The contestant must pen a speech which will be delivered for a minimum of three (3) minutes
and maximum of four (4) minutes.
4. Three copies of the speech shall be given to the officer-in-charge one (1) day before the event.
5. Props and costumes are encourage.
6. The decision of the judge is final and irrevocable.

Singing Contest/Vocal Solo Mechanics

Mr. and Ms. CTE 2023 Mechanics

1. The candidates must be a bona fide student of the College of Teacher Education of Siargao
Island Institute of Technology.
2. Each team must only have one male and one female representative for the pageant. The
participating team shall be responsible for screening the candidates in accordance to the rules
and guidelines set by the CTE Committee.
3. The participating team shall have two coordinators who will accompany the candidates.
Preferably one for the male and one for the female candidate.
4. The organizing committee has the right to call the attention of the candidates in cases of any
untoward behavior that would cause disturbance of the scheduled activity.
5. Candidates should no records of minor and major offenses in their respective teams.

2. Each house is responsible for the well-being of their candidates and should maximize available
resources.
3. Each houses shall provide all the necessities i.e. costumes, wears, shoe, wear, hair and make-up
to the candidates.

Ms. Q&A CTE Guidelines and Mechanics

1. Each house shall have one candidate.


2. The candidate has to be a member of the LGBTQIA+ community or who identifies as such.
3. The candidates will compete in the following categories:
a. Production number (Introduction and Talent Showcasing)
i. The introduction should be brief and concise providing the name, age, house
representing, quotation/saying/philosophy which will be followed by a short
(maximum of one minute) showcasing of talent.
ii. Mastery and execution --- 20%
iii. Uniqueness of the saying --- 30%
iv. Audience impact --- 10%
v. Poise and bearing --- 40%
b. Mythology and Folklore Costumes
a. Creativity --- 50%
b. Relevance to the inspiration/reference character --- 30%
c. Poise and bearing --- 30%

c. Question and Answer Portion


i. Qualifying Round – the candidates will answer close-ended questions and will
answer by going to the stations to pop a balloon as an indication that they know
the answer, five questions will be asked and the candidate with the lowest score
will not continue;
ii. Rasones Festival! (Festival of Reasons!) – the four remaining candidates will be
choosing their opponent by picking a number from a bowl. All candidates will be
given 30 seconds to think and understand the question. The competition has 2
rounds and all contestants will be given 60 seconds each, 30 seconds for the
first round and another 30 seconds for the last round.
