Ethical theory explained: (3-5 sentences only)

Utilitarianism is an ethical theory that FOCUSES ON OUTCOMES to decide what is right or
wrong. This is a good or morally right if it promotes happiness, and it is bad or immoral if it tends
to produce pain. And if the decision is that will result in the GREATEST GOOD FOR THE
GREATEST NUMBER is the most morally the right one.

Answer to the question: Answer the question directly.

Emma’s decision is morally wrong.

Reason #1: (3-5 sentences only)

Leaving her family without her children can bring PLEASURE ONLY FOR HER but outturn a
PAIN for her children. It was immoral because of the pain that was produced by making the
decision. It is better to be successful with everybody being happy than leaving displeasure to
anyone.

Reason #2: (3-5 sentences only)

Emma doesn’t think on the OUTCOMES that her decision leaving her children to Dominic is
morally wrong. Her ACTION does not bring the best results to her children and considers her
own UTILITY. Despite being successful, her kids may despise her for leaving them behind
which can cause displeasure.
