Vibration

is a periodic motion of a body through a equilibrium point.

When the pendulum moves from B-A-C-A-B,

it is called that it makes one vibration.

Period is time to make one vibration.

Frequency is the number of vibration in
one second.
Formula
t
__
T = n T = period (s)
t = time taken (s)
__
n
f = t f = frequency (Hz)
n = number of vibration
It took 40 seconds to make 200 vibrations. Calculate :
● The period
● The frequency
Wave

Wave is called as a regular vibration.

Based on the direction the waves are divided into :

● Longitudinal wave
● Transverse wave

Based on the medium the waves are divided into :

● electromagnetic wave
● mechanical wave
Longitudinal Wave

Longitudinal wave has compression and rarefaction.

Sound is one of longitudinal wave.
Transverse wave

Longitudinal wave has crest and trough.

Light is one of transverse wave.
Transverse wave

wave length = the length of one wave (m or cm)

Period = time to make one wave (s)
Frequency = the number of wave in one second (Hz)
Speed = the travelled distance in one second (m/s)
