Checking of Attendance

B. MOTIVATION

Okay class, what I want you to do is to identify the

jumbled words and unlock the meaning of it. Okay, sir.

1. onnlaahctn (The students will group their section into two.)

2. nuagt
3. nuahsehc
4. souludercin (The students are trying to figure out the words
5. shylikar presented in the television.)

Alright! Stop! My dear students, now that you have

arrange the jumbled letters, let us now try to unlock
it. Okay, sir.

What is number 1? Nonchalant, sir.

Okay. Very good. What is the meaning of it? According to the dictionary, nonchalance is of
being calm or cool.

How about the second one? The second one is Gaunt, sir. The meaning of
Gaunt is (of a person) lean and haggard,
especially because of suffering, hunger, or age.
Very impressive! How about the third? Haunches, sir. It is a buttock and thigh
considered together, in a human or animal.
Basically a body part.

Great analyzation! The fourth one my dear? Incredulous po, sir. (Of a person or their
manner) unwilling or unable to believe
something.

How about the last number? Rakishly, sir. It means confidently careless in an
informal way or manner.

WOW! My students are active participants. For that,

I will give each of you 10 points for your active
participation in this activity. This will be recorded
under recitation. Thank you po, sir. 

Alright, alright. In connection to the game that we

have just played. Let me introduce you the story of (Students are reading the summary presented
“Ma Booruen’s Restaurant” by Miss Minfong Ho. in the TV screen.)
In the story, we might encounter the words we just
unlocked in the game that we have played.

What I want you to do is to read and analyze this

summary of short story by Miss Minfong Ho.
entitled “Ma Booruen’s Restaurant.” it is a very
beautiful story, that will leave us a very wonderful
lesson about life. (5mins)

(The teacher will now ask questions to thestudents.)

Okay class, Upon reading the story, what have you Sir. It’s all about truthfulness, loyalty,
understand on it? compassion, and enthusiasm.

Wow, such strong words. Wonderful. Great Sir. For me Ma booruen did the right thing

the two ladies.

Alright, thank you. Maybe she is being practical Sir. For me po, Ma booruen only thinks of her
right. How about the others? What are your wealth and benefit. Also, she is not a woman of
sentiments about the story? her words.

Yes. Very true. How about the bottled lady? What Sir. For me no, she is kind of pitiful. Because
are your sentiments about her? Is she pitiful? Or is she is striving to earn money for his sick
she annoying? husband and she is doing her best to earn money
in a dignified way.

Yes, sir. I too, would like to agree to what

Mr._______ said. She is doing it
unconditionally and for love.

Okay, thank you! For your answers! Yes it’s all (Students will shout AHHHHHHH!)
about love after all. Aside from that, anyone else? None, sir.

Alright, Thank you for your answers. Very

meaningful indeed.

Now, class. The story talks about being truthful to

your words. Valuing the people around you, respect
and loyalty.

I, personally, think that it would be best to know

what will happen to the other side of the situation
before dealing with someone else. Let’s not be
selfish. We are created by God to love one another. (Students listening attentively)
To share our love and blessings. The story taught us
that being rich or successful isn’t enough to fix
everything. Time is gold. And what had happened in
the past, whether on purposed or not, will remain as
is. Nothing we can say or do can change at either.

Class we should remember that wealth is not always

the definition of success. Sometimes, success are the Okay, sir.
things, values, or traits that we had acquired or (students nodded)
accomplished with love.
(Reflection Writing)
Class, what I want you to do is get a one half sheet
of yellow paper and try to answer this question it
three to four sentences. Here is the question. Okay, sir.

In your opinion, what does it take to be successful in (Students writing the question on their papers.)
any field?

I will give you 10 minutes to answer.

Later we will analyze your answers.
Five minutes later… Done? Not yet

(Sharing)
Those who are done, kindly raise your hands. (Students raised their hands)
Alright, it’s like most of the students are done.
For those who are not yet done, kindly continue.

Alright class, listen. I need atleast three volunteers (students are being shy to volunteer their selves)
for the sharing.

Alright, I’ll choose then.

1. Mr.____________
2. Miss___________ (The students will now share their answers)
3. Miss___________

you've got to be ready to put in the work.

Wow, great analyzation of the question. success.

Alright class, give your classmates a big round of

applause. (Students claps)

Okay, now that we already discussed and analyze

the story, let us try to create one.

Game? Yes, sir.

C. PRESENTATION

(Introduction of the lesson: Knowledge

Measurement)
Okay class, In connection to the short story that
we’ve just read. Let us try to create our own version
of it. Don’t worry I am not going to require you to
create a short story, but instead, a parable. But,
before you crate one, let us first discuss it.

Are we familiar in parables? Yes, sir.

Where can we usually find a parable? Bible po, sir.

Can you label the parables presented in the TV

screen? Yes, sir!

The Good Samaritan

The parable of the lost sheep

The parable of the tax collector

Very Good, class! You are familiar with the parable
that I showed. (students nodded)

What do you think are the common denominator of

the story that we have read a while ago, and this
parables? They teach us values and lessons about life

Well said!

What are their difference then? Short story is that story is a sequence of real or
fictional events; or, an account of such a
sequence while parable is a short narrative
illustrating a lesson (usually religious/moral) by
comparison or analogy.
That is correct!

A fable, parable, and allegory, any form of

imaginative literature or spoken utterance (Students listening attentively)
constructed in such a way that readers or listeners
are encouraged to look for meanings hidden beneath
the literal surface of the fiction.

Do we know how to use figures of speech like

metaphor, imagery, and personification? Kind of, sir.

Okay, just to refresh your knowledge about the said

figures of speech. Let me give you the meaning and
use of these. Okay, sir.

A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an

object or action in a way that isn't literally true, but
helps explain an idea or make a comparison.

Examples are…

Proverbs 13:14
The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life.

Psalms 23:1
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Understood? Yes, sir.

Can you give one example? (A student raised her hand)

Miss___________ The snow is a white blanket.

Alright, you remember. Just remember class,
metaphor - direct comparison of two unlike things. Okay, sir.

Okay, let’s move on.

An imagery is a visual symbolism, or figurative

language that evokes a mental image or other kinds
of sense impressions, especially in a literary work.

Examples are…

The grass was green, and the flowers were red.

John 1:51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to

you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of
God ascending and descending upon the Son of
man.”

Understood? Yes, sir.

Can you give one example? (A student raised her hand)

Mr.___________ He has a heart of stone

Correct!

And lastly, the personification is the attribution of a

personal nature or human characteristics to
something nonhuman, or the representation of an
abstract quality in human form.

Examples are…

Mother Earth (The earth is given a title usually

reserved for a human.)

'Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing
together for joy' (Psalm 98:8).

Alright? Can you give an example? The trees wave its last goodbye. 

What a very sad example, but meaningful and

poetic. Love it. Thank you, sir.
Thank you all for participating in recalling some of
the figurative language. It will help you later in
writing a parable.
Just remember class, in writing a parable,
Start with the moral lesson. Think about a moral
principle that has been important in your own life, or
one that you're still struggling to learn fully.

Understood? Yes, sir.

Alright let’s create one later!

Questions? Ammm, sir? Are we going to submit it today?

Yes, if time allows it to happen. But, if not, pass it Well noted po, sir.
tomorrow at my time.

Any other question? None so far.

D. APPLICATION
Group your section into two, and then Get a bible. Okay, sir.

Try to find some parables there. At least three.

Share it with your group. (Students finding some samples of parable in

the bible)
Try to figure out the meanings behind the parables
that you have find.

Share it in front of the class. (Students brainstorming)

You may search the verses on the internet, but I

want you to base your answers in the book.

I’ll give you 15 minutes to present it. Noted po, sir.

Any question about the activity? Sir. What if we only found two?

It is okay. Okay sir. Thank you.

Ready? No, sir.

Okay, 3 more minutes. Polish your work. Finish or

not finish you will present. Done na po, sir.

(The teacher will now listen to the analyzation of the (The students presenting and explaining their
students) thoughts regarding to their chosen parables)
None so far.
Very Good, class! You have done a wonderful job in
explaining the meaning behind those parables that
you have chosen.

Great analyzation! Thank you, sir.

E. GENERALIZATION

A parable is a short and simple story that teaches a

religious or moral lesson. The parable of the Good
Samaritan and the parable of the Prodigal Son are
just two examples of the many parables attributed to
Jesus, as recorded in the four gospels.

In wring a parable, we usually use figurative

language such as: metaphor, personification, and
imagery in describing a scene or a situation to make
it more meaningful and poetic.

Unlike short stories, parables are usually brief and

concise. (Students taking down notes)

Okay, remove everything that on your desk. Keep

your notes and we will have a quiz. What! We are not prepared, sir.

You can do this! Okay, sir.
