Activity Title: Finding the Volume of Rectangular Prism Using cu. cm
and cu. m.
Learning Target: Finds the volume of a rectangular prism using cu. cm and
cu. m. (M4ME-IVe-64)
Reference: Mathematics 4 LM pages 233 to 236, MELC

Rectangular prism is a solid figure that has six faces, 12 edges and eight vertices (vertex in
singular). Some rectangular prisms have faces that are shaped like rectangles or squares.
Vertex – is the corner of a shape
Edge- is a segment where two faces of a prism meet
It has three dimensions such as length, width and height as shown in the drawing below.

To find its volume, the formula is V= lxwxh and the answer is expressed in cubic units like cu.
cm or cu. m.
l-is length w-is width h- is heigth
Example:
Problem: A gasoline tank has a length of 6m, a width of 3m and a height of 5m. what is the
volume

l-6m w -3m h-5m V=l x w x h

=6mx3mx5m
=90 cu. m the volume of gasoline tank
Direction: Find the volume of the following rectangular prisms that the length, width and height
are given. Item number one is 2 points and item number 2 is 3 points. Show the steps in getting
the volume of each.
1. l - 9m 2. L- 20cm
w- 6m w- 12cm
h- 7m h- 9cm
