Operating Instructions

Strain Gauge Amplifier Type MRV 140

Web Tension Sensor Set-Up

Measuring Point
Step Action Measuring Terminal
+ GND

1 Switch-off the plant.

2 Ensure wiring of amplifier and web tension

set value potentiometer are correct.

3 Keep web material away from the measuring

roll in order to prevent any initial load.

4 Switch on measuring chain and wait for

warm-up (15 minutes). Leave thyristor unit
disconnected.

5 Adjust zero point via potentiometers P2 and 0 volt 19 17

P3 (Zero, coarse and fine).

6 Set web tension set value potentiometer to 0 volt 18 17

minimum (0 %). 0 volt 16 17

to ensure that the running-in and running-out
of the measuring roll is the same as under Fref
operating conditions. See 1) V2 = 10V
Likewise, a rope can be used in the roll cen- Fn
ter. The weight force of the reference weight
should be approximately that of the nominal Fn = Nominal tension force
web force (e.g. 80 %). Fref= Force generated by the refe-
Adjust potentiometer P1 (GainA). rence weight
7.1 If the calculated output voltage V2 cannot be
adjusted:
Switch off the measuring chain, pull out top
board, switch S1 “OFF” and remove weight.
Repeat from step 4.
If V2 again cannot be set, repeat (subsequent-
ly) step 7.1 with switches S2 and S3 until the
calculated value can be set.

1)
The adjustment of amplification can be made via the cali-
bration switch S4 ( Cal ). This easier procedure, however,
does neither checks the sensor function nor the correct
attachment.
Function of S4 see technical information.

13 Set web tension set value potentiometer to

minimum (0 %).

14 Switch on thyristor unit.

Set web tension set value potentiometer to 25
% (speed not important).

15 Apply pressure to the measuring roll so as to Winder drive decelerates

ensure that the force direction approximately
corresponds to the foil web tension .

15.1 If the drive accelerates, change cable at termi-

nals 16 and 17. See 3)
Repeat step 15.

2)
The optimum adjustment of GainC and t is dependent on machine and material. For serial machines, in most cases, it is
sufficient to determine these potentiometer positions once and always use them for adjustment.
3)
This procedure can be used only for thyristor drive amplifiers which have a differential input for the web tension signal. For
inputs referred to ground the sensor signal connections shall be exchanged (terminals 1 and 2 with 4 and 5).
