INTRODUCTION

. Badminton is a game that is liked by many people. This game is one of the
most popular games. Also, it is an indoor game, but it can also be played outside
casually, however most of the world class competition are held in an indoor area
because they want to reduce the influence caused by external factors such as wind and
lights to the minimum level. Badminton is social sport and offers a great way to meet
new people.

Also, everybody has played badminton at least once in their lifetime, and the
more we play, the more enjoyable it gets and the more disciplined it makes us. People
who play badminton experience nostalgia since it reminds them of their youth.
Additionally, due to the enthusiasm for its health advantages, this game is also played
by many adults and children. In addition to two players, badminton can also be played
by two opposing pairs of players, or doubles players.

This game requires only two things, the racket and shuttlecock. In addition,
badminton has many skills that players need to be known and rules and regulation
need to follow. In the game of badminton there are several skills that players need to
know. Among them in terms of the correct position of the racket and others. There are
many more basic badminton rules and regulations that players should know.

3
RULES AND REGULATION OF BADMINTON

Among the rules and regulations of badminton are in terms of serving, faults, scoring
system and others. In terms of the scoring system, badminton matches are scored
using a three-game format, with the first player or team to score 21 points winning
each match. If tied at 20 points, play continues until one team has a two point lead.
Each time a player wins a rally, they are awarded a point and must then serve the ball.
Additionally, each player starts with 0 points. The match is won by the first team to
score the winning point. Points are scored either by landing the shuttlecock inside the
court on your opponent’s side of the court or when the opposing side commits a fault.

The badminton scoring system can be summarized as simply as this :

 A game is the first to 21 point.
 A match is the best of three games to 21.
 A point is scored every rally regardless of who served.
 Whichever side won the rally gets to serve or carries on serving.
 At 20-20 the game goes to setting, the first player/pair to gain a two point lead
wins the game.
 If the score reaches 29-29 the side that scores the 30th point wins the game.
 The side that wins the game starts with the serve the next game.

4
While in terms of faults badminton is simply an act or an event that ends the rally. A
fault awards a point against the player/pair that committed the fault. A fault is
decisive and can only be called by the umpire or the service judge in a professional
game. When there are no judging officials the players are responsible for knowing and
adhering to the rules.

 The shuttlecock landing outside the court.

 Failing to clear the net.
 Landing in the incorrect service court.
 Not being struck cleanly.
 A player touching the net with their racket or themself are all considered errors.
 Delaying the serve after being ready.
 Delaying the service motion.
 Touching the court lines.
 Foot are off the ground or moving.
 The serve landing out.

5
Besides, in terms of serving to keep it really basic, to serve in Badminton you have to
stand in your service court and serve underarm to the serve box adjacent to yours. The
server must wait for the service to be struck before moving and attempting to return
the serve.

Common faults to avoid :

 Staggering your service motion.

 Standing on the court lines. You’re not allowed to stand on any part of the line in
your service box.
 Serving about waist height.
 Not having your racket head pointing downwards.

6
Badminton Court
Badminton Courts are the rectangular surfaces used for the racket sport of badminton.
divided in half by a center badminton net, courts are usually marked for both singles
or doubles games with boundary widths varying between the two match types.
Badminton courts should be surfaced with safe flooring materials for gameplay, that
include wood, synthetic, and rubber flooring options.

Badminton Courts have a length of 44’ (13.4 m), but double courts are 20’ (6.1 m)
wide while single courts are reduced to 17’ (5.18 m); shrinking by 1.5’ (.46 m) on
both sides. Service courts are split by a center line dividing the width of the court and
are set back from the net by a ‘short service line’ of 6.5’ (1.98 m). Doubles games
also require a ‘long service line’ that is placed 2.5’ (.76 m) in from the back boundary.
Clearances of 2’ (.61 m) should be providing around the entire badminton court.

Essential Skills and Techniques
Badminton Smash
- A badminton smash is an aggressive shot made from the back court that descends to
the side of the opponent. Both the forehand and backhand sides can be used to play it.
The player strikes the shuttle overhead while maintaining a full downward tempo. For
an angled shot, the non-racket hand should be elevated and aimed above the chin. For
balance, the player shifts weight to the back foot. There is essentially no defence
against a well-executed badminton smash, which is thought to be the most effective
shot in the game.

Badminton Backhand
- A backhand stroke in badminton is when a player strikes the shuttle with their
backhand while it is hovering over their head. Tennis or squash swinging patterns are
considerably unlike to this one. Strong backhands are incredibly challenging to
execute, and many badminton players struggle with this technique. When the player is
unable to play a forehand shot, they will play this defensive shot. The goal of the shot
is to force the opponent as close to the back court as possible by forcing the shuttle
over their heads.

8
Badminton Serve
- The shuttle is played using a badminton serve. For singles and doubles play in
badminton, there are distinct serves. They can be executed so the opponent cannot
smash the shuttle, or they can be utilize to keep the opponent on the move. There are
two main ways to serve in badminton: high serve and low serve. When a player wants
the shuttle to land in the back of the court, they use a high serve, and when they want
it to land in front of the court, in front of their opponent, they use a low serve.

Badminton Forehand
- They are carried out on the body's racket side. The shot would be executed by a
right-handed player on the right side of the body and a left-handed player on the left
side of the body. Furthermore, only forehand strokes will be used for all shots that are
made to the top of the body. The most frequent shot type on the back of the court is
the forehand, which has the greatest power of any player.

9
CONCLUSION

In conclusion, players should know some basic rules and regulation of

badminton that need to be followed while playing. This is so that players do not take
it for granted while playing badminton. The game of badminton has been practised for
a very long period. Even though the game's rules have changed a lot since it was first
invented, some of them have not altered at all and have been the same since the dawn
of time.

In addition to several health advantages, this sport is also quite entertaining.

Because we only need a shuttlecock and a racket, it is a sport that doesn't require
many players and is also reasonably priced. This activity offers fitness for the mind
and body, making it more than just a typical sport. Badminton can also bring closer
relationships with new people.

This activity is very good if played during free time. It should not be played
during competition. This activity can also fill our free time and be able to learn a little
bit about the rules of badminton that need to be known. Badminton can also make
young people more interested in sports so that they are more active in sports
especially playing badminton. It is because badminton is easy to play and rules and
regulations of badminton are easy to understand.
