I. Objectives

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of South and West


Asian literature as an expression of philosophical and religious
belief; information flow of various text types; reality, fantasy, and
opinion in listening and viewing materials; word decoding
strategies; and use of information sources, active/passive
constructions, direct/reported speech, perfect tenses, and
logical connectors in journalistic writing.
Performance standard: The learner transfer learning composing a variety of
journalistic texts, the contents of which may be used in
composing and delivering a memorized oral speech featuring
use of properly acknowledged information sources, grammatical
signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis, and
appropriate prosodic features, stance, behavior.
Learning Competency: EN8V-IVg-15-2.2: Use various strategies in decoding the
meaning of words.
EN8LT-IVf-2.2.4: Explain figurative language used
Objective: At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
a) Decode the meaning of words or lines used in the poem and song;
b) use SIFT method in analyzing the message of the author;
c) identify the figurative language used in each line; and
d) Display positive working attitude in decoding the meaning of the
figurative language found in the poem/song

The student will read the southwest Asian poem “The Ocean”
C. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
The students will sing the song California king bed by Rihanna.
2. Analysis
The students will give the meaning and the message of the song using the
SIFT table.

3. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss the SIFT Method.
4. Application
The students will be divide into 4 and each group have to analyze the
message of the author using the SIFT method.

5.Generalization
 The teacher will ask what is the SIFT method.
 The teacher will ask the importance of SIFT method in analyzing the
author’s message in a literary work.
