My Own Philosophy of Education

“Lamang ang may Alam” is a classic Filipino phrase, which translates as

this: having greater knowledge gives you an advantage, which I believe is
also the same as the saying, “Knowledge is power”. To acquire such
power or advantage, one must educate himself. Hence, a strong
educational foundation is necessary for a promising future. Knowledge
acquired throughout education enables us to be confident in life and helps
us build our personality. It also creates opportunities for long-term
development and a better professional path. By concentrating our efforts
on developing an efficient educational system and designing effective
teaching strategies we can enhance our community and pave the way for
social change and equality.

One reason I chose teaching as a profession (in the future) while it is one
of the underrated jobs in the Philippines is that I want to convey to the
new generation the key role of education in making a difference in their
future. I believe each child is unique in terms of potential and learning
capacity. Since school is their second home, I will make an effort to
create a stimulating learning atmosphere in which they can grow
emotionally, cognitively, physically, and socially. I will also create an
environment that feels like home, where students are not intimidated to
take risks and express themselves comfortably. Instead of just being a
necessity that must be fulfilled, I will instill in my students a passion for
knowledge and show them the joy and fun of learning new things.

I want to imprint on them that, while the education they receive in a

classroom or other educational setting may play a significant role in
carving their future, it is not everything. They can also learn through their
parents or those around them, their life experiences, and through self-
education. A proper education, however, opens up a lot of opportunities
to go ahead in the future and helps them achieve their fullest potential.
Additionally, I want to ensure that my students are aware of the power of
education to affect change - a change that has an impact on one's
personal development and motivates others to change.

To engage my students in my lessons, I will design a variety of teaching

methods that will aid them in refining their basic skills and increasing
their knowledge level. Tasks and assignments that I give will emphasize
context and applications from the actual world. I will keep an eye on
every progress they’ll make and suggest recommendations on how to
keep up the momentum and strengthen their areas of weakness.

To become an effective teacher, I will teach lessons inside and outside the
classroom, build strong relationships with my students, and leave a
lasting impression on them. I'll set an example for my students by
upgrading my teaching techniques and by continuing to learn. I'll also
highlight how education has impacted my life and how my desire to learn
has led me to where I am now.

Existentialism, constructivism, behaviorism, and pragmatism are the

educational philosophies that have inspired me with my own philosophy.
In my perspective, just like existentialism and pragmatism, understanding
merely concepts, developing intelligence, and learning theories from
textbooks are meaningless without applications. One should focus on the
practicality and growth of the whole person not just the mind. Like
behaviorism, I think that the environment shapes students; a positive
atmosphere fosters positive behavior, and positive behavior leads to
better learning. Constructivism, which emphasizes the growth of intrinsic
drive and independent learning, is another concept that inspires me.
Encouraging learners' desire to pursue independent learning and giving
them the learning skills, they need to develop knowledge and conduct
deeper understanding.

When I become a teacher, I hope to see how my philosophy of education

will impact my students' lives just like how it made a difference in mine.
The educational philosophy I develop makes me more motivated and
eager to become a teacher so I can share my knowledge and help in
providing my students with the skills they need for adult life.  Even if this
is the philosophy I aim to practice as a teacher there is always room for
growth, and my desire to master diverse teaching techniques to improve
my ability to deliver my lessons effectively will only increase as I dive
deeper into achieving my aspirations. As a result, I may be able to refine
or even change the philosophy I already hold.

In conclusion, I will focus most of my teaching strategies in my classroom

on assisting my students in discovering their unique essence, potential,
and skills. I will develop student-centered instructional approaches and
place a significant emphasis on providing them with a variety of
opportunities that will drive them to express themselves freely. Instill a
passion for learning in them and create an environment where they may
all feel like family and trust one another. Establish a setting where they
can voice their opinions, feel acknowledged, and inspire one another.
Become self-sufficient learners with the freedom to be whomever they
want to be.
