▪ The Water Level Indicator employs a simple mechanism to
detect and indicate the water level in an water container.
▪ It uses simple components like transistors, resistors, leds’
and buzzer to indicate the level of wate in a container to
which it is attached.
▪ This makes have our hand in the effort to reduce the
wastage of tons of gallons of water that happens everyday.
▪ A study estimated that a person in India consumes on an average of
140 liters per day. This consumption would rise by 40% by the year
2025. This signifies the need to preserve our fresh water resources.
(Research gate paper-2016)

▪ This problem can be controlled by a simple electronic circuit consists

with some cheap electronic components, that circuit is called ‘Water
Level Indicator.
The following objectives are likely to be focused and
achieved at the end of the project “water level indicator”.

i. To make the most commercial and reliable water level indicator

using as less resources as possible.
ii. To study the indicator model and observe its characteristics.
iii. To compare the indicator with the conventional indicators
available in market
iv. To propose any ideas or improvements that can lead to future
development of the indicator.
Components Used:
1) Transistors (bc 547) [3]
2) LED (red, green, yellow) [3]
3) Buzzer
4) Resistor(330ohm) [3]
5) Bread board
6) Connecting wires
7) Battery (9v)
8) Container
Green Led lights
• Water level rises up • Water level rises
above first limit above third limit
• Water level rises
• Water completes • Water completes
above second
the circuit the third circuit
limit
• Water completes
the second circuit Red Led lights up
Yellow Led lights
and buzzer starts
up
to ring
▪ The lighting of yellow led tells us that water has risen
above the first level.
▪ The lighting of the green led tells that water has risen
above the second level.
▪ Lastly the sound of the buzzer and lighting of the red led
indicates that the water level is above the last limit and the
container is full.
▪ In the near future as home automation web based water
level monitoring and controlling system can be designed,
through which the system can be controlled from any place
via internet through mobile phone. This could have a
substantial benefit from this research work for efficient
management of water.
▪ This project was intended to design a simple and low cost water level
indicator. This is not only for water tank but also used for oil level and
chemical lab. To design this system, we used transistor as a platform
and local materials for low cost. We tried to design a system in such a
way that its components will be able to prevent the wastage of water.
The whole system operates automatically. So it does not need any
expert person to operate it. It is not so expensive.
