How to set up your Echo Dot using a Web Browser

This document takes you through setting up your Amazon Echo Dot using the web
browser on your laptop or wireless computer.

What you will need


Have the following to set up:
 Your Amazon account details including password
 Your Amazon Echo Dot
 Your Laptop or Computer
 The name and password for your Wi-Fi

Preparation
Remove your Amazon Echo speaker and power plug from the box, but don’t plug it in
until asked to during the setup procedure.

Open the Alexa Amazon Web page


1. In goggle search type in - Alexa amazon sign in
2. Select > Amazon Alexa – Amazon.com
3. Sign in with your log in details

Use a Web page to set up your Echo Speaker


4. Select > Settings
5. Select > Set Up a New Device
6. Select > Echo Dot – or other Amazon Echo Speaker
7. Select > Continue
8. Plug in Echo Dot to power point
9. And wait for dot to initialise the light ring will turn blue for a couple of moments,
then switch to orange, and then play a short audio greeting. At this point the
Amazon Echo is ready for setup. 
10. If light ring does not turn to orange hold down action button (button with raised
dot) until you hear set up tone and message.

11. Select > continue

Connect the Echo Dot to Your Wifi


12. Select > Continue
13. Leave App or web page and go to settings or straight to your wifi connection
point on the device
14. You may not have to do this step your wifi connection may just come up in that
case just enter password
15. Select > Echo XXX (or may say Amazon XXX)
16. Go back to Alexa Amazon’s website in web browser
17. It should say connected to Echo Dot
18. Select > Continue
19. Select > Your Wifi Connection – enter password
20. Don't remember it? Your access password is most likely printed on a sticker on
your router. 
21. Select > Connect
22. The light ring should turn off on the Echo Dot
23. The Echo Dot should be connected
24. Start by saying your wake word “Alexa, Hello” – Alexa should say hello back
25. Scroll down the list of settings and check the following:
26. Device Location is correct
27. Time Zone is set to: New Zealand
28. Language is correct
29. Measurement Units is set to: Celsius, Kilometres

Trouble Shooting connection


30. If you are having problems connecting hold down the action (button with raised
dot) until it says you are now ready for set up and try again.
