1. VAN – a létét, meglétét hangsúlyozzuk

+ Van egy könyv az asztalon. > There is a book on the table.

- Nincs egy könyv az asztalon. > There is not a book on the table.
? Van egy könyv az asztalon? – Igen./Nem. > Is there a book on the table? – Yes, there is./No there isn’t.

2. VALAMI – nem konkrét, határozatlan főnév

A there is/are szerkezetek a fenti mennyiségre vonatkozó kifejezésekkel magabiztosan használhatók.

 De: a következőkkel nem, mert azok nem határozatlanok, hanem konkrétak:

the/this/that/these/those/my, your... Tehát: The book is on the table. – A könyv az asztalon van.

 Ne keverd össze! > There is a book there. – Van egy könyv ott.

 Mindennapi használat:

A There is/There szerkezeteket képleírásnál és a környezetedről (my room/classroom/office, my

flat/house/school/street/city...) való mesélésnél lehet használni.
 My classroom
My classroom is beautiful.
There are a lot of desks in the classroom.
There are a few/some books, exercise books, pens and pencils on the desks.
On my desk there is a pencilcase, and there are some books and exercise books.
The teacher's table is in the corner of the room in front of the board.
There's a computer on the teacher's table.
There are a lot of pictures and photos on the walls. They are really nice.
There are 2 chairs behind a desk.
There are a few plants on the cupboard.

All in all I like my classroom because it’s really beautiful.

My home
I live in the 11th district in Budapest. My street is nice because there are a lot of trees and bushes in it.
There are some cars in front of the houses. I live in a block of flats on the 3rd floor. There are 4 rooms in
my flat: a living room, two bedrooms and a study.There is a bathroom, kitchen, a pantry and an
anteroom/hall as well. My favourite room is the living room because it is large and there is plenty of room.
The living room is really nice. There is a led tv on the wall. The stereo is below the tv with the
loudspeakers. The sofa is opposite the tv in the middle of the room. There is a big green carpet in the
middle of the room. There are a couple of shelves on the wall next to the tv. There are a few books on the
shelves. There is a clock above the door. There are some nice plants and flowers in the corner of the living
room. Actually I like the living room because it is really nice. All in all I like my flat/house.

My office

My office is relatively small. There’s a grey desk in the middle of it. There’s a printer on my desk. It’s on
the right corner of the desk. There’s a laptop on the desk, too. There are some pens between the printer and
the laptop. My chair is behind the desk, near the wall. There are some flowers and plants near the window,
opposite the door. They are really beautiful. There aren’t any pictures on the wall, but there are some
shelves on it. There are a lot of books on the shelves. Actually my office is quite nice.
