Defining relative clause(1 - person)

A defining relative clause is to give extra information to a noun in the sentence.


It always comes after a noun, and starts with a relative pronoun(who/which/that)

I like my homeroom teacher. He is fun and knowledgeable.


I like my homeroom teacher who is fun and knowledgeable.

BIS is a school. The school has both boys and girls.


BIS is a school which has both boys and girls.

In following sentences, put the defining relative clause in bracket.

1. The man who is standing there is Mr Aaron.


2. The boy who is having lunch is my classmate.
3. The lady who just hosted on the stage is my teacher.
4. The girl who often cries is my sister.
5. We saw the guy who made our teacher laugh.

Think: within the clause, what function does the relative pronoun serve? Subject? Object?
