Whether or not students should take a gap year after graduating from high school is a
controversial issue. Some people believed that students should take a gap year while others
held opposing views. This essay will state why students should not take a gap year for a variety
of reasons such as creating an unmotivated behavior, losing momentum in studying, and the
consequence of a gap year

Students who consider taking a gap year are most likely to create unmotivated behavior.
During the gap year, students become unmotivated in preparing for the university since they do
not have to go to school. There will be no learning atmosphere, no teacher to guide them and
pressure feeling for go to university like the time when they were high school students which all
of these motivate them to go to university. Thus, there are many things that distract them from
focusing on their studies during the year off.

Taking a year off makes the student lose momentum in studying and this may cause the
student to become a school leaver. Some students find such breaks so relaxing and enjoyable
that they decide to shun further studies permanently, similarly, students find things to do and
don't want to go back to study. For example, students might get a job and decide to stay for a
promotion rather than go back to study.

There are many consequences to taking a year. students will graduate slower than their
classmates which leads to a delay at the beginning of a person’s career which means that the
person will start earning at a later stage in life than he was supposed to. Moreover, the student
will be under pressure from people around them who do not oppose the gap year idea and
especially from their family that does not support them. With the unsupported environment,
students can easily feel left out to see their friends moving out of home and going to college
while they are left behind. In addition, without a certain goal, a mismanaged gap year may turn
out to be a waste of time.

In conclusion, there are many reasons why students should not take a gap year. For
many of them, the main reason is that students become unmotivated to go to university after
taking a gap year. However, students are likely not to return to study as they lose momentum in
their studies. Regardless of these reasons students should think of the consequence of a
mismanaged gap year.
