Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

in MATH 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. Define the congruent angles,
2. Identify the congruent angles, and
3. Recommend a real-life situation where the concept can be applied.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Congruent Angles
Source: Math 7 Modules
Materials: Tarpapel, pentel pen, chalk
Value Integration: Self-accuracy

III. Lesson Proper

A. Motivation
Story-telling: I have a friend and he wanted to add some color lighting in his motorcycle. He
bought a LED lights and tried to connect to the motorcycle batteries. As he tried to connect, the
LED lights failed. He called me and asked what went wrong and I advised him to add resistor to
the connection.
Questions:
1. What do you think did happened why the first connection of the LED lights failed?
2. For you, what is the purpose of resistor?

B. Review
Ask the students:
What have you learned so far about the resistor?

C. Discussion
1. Meaning of resistor
A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance
as a circuit element. In electronic circuits, resistors are used to reduce current flow, adjust signal
levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and terminate transmission lines, among other
uses.

2. Unit of resistance
The electrical resistance of a resistor is measured in ohms. The symbol for an ohm is the Greek
capital-omega: Ω. The (somewhat roundabout) definition of 1Ω is the resistance between
two points where 1 volt (1V) of applied potential energy will push 1 ampere (1A) of current.

3. Color coding methods

The colors brown, red, green, blue, and violet are used as tolerance codes on 5-band resistors
only. All 5-ban0d resistors use a colored tolerance band. The blank (20%) “band” is only used
with the “4-band” code (3 colored bands + a blank “band”).
D. Generalization
The main function of resistors in a circuit is to control the flow of current to other components.
Take a LED light for example. If too much current flows through a LED it can be destroyed. So a
resistor is used to limit the current.

E. Evaluation
Give each student a resistor and let them decode the value.

IV. Assignment
Students will research about Ohm’s Law and write it on a one whole sheet of paper.
