ILAGAN

ACTIVITY REFLECTION
DIRECTIONS: Write your reflection regarding the activity conducted of more than 100 words in the box shown below.

When all of us entered the site, I felt intimidated, because I'm already in my 5th year in architecture but it
seems like I still don't know a lot of things, even basic ones in designing and construction. You can see if you entered
the site that there are a lot of equipment for construction and there are hazards/danger with unfinished construction
that’s why you need protection: the hard hat and the vest with reflector for dark areas inside.

During our site visit, I learned and saw that there are are a lot of pipes existing and hidden on the ceiling. Like
the blue ones are for air-conditioning, the white ones are called PPR pipes which are use for hot and cold water system,
the red ones are for the sprinkler system, and of course the orange ones are sewer pipes. Sewer pipes has no elbows.
Wi-fi connections and telephone should also be considered to be hidden these days. Of course, these ceilings are
covered by plywood or hardiflex supported by metal furring and channel with W-clip.

In this two site visits, the structural of both buildings are made of steel. With steel, it will be a fast construction,
and when it is fast, the owner will be able to gain income faster. I Beam was mostly used, and it can be ordered on a 6
meter length or a 12 meter length. If it is already 3 meters high, a lintel beam is required for support.

For the first time, I saw on site an actual shear wall for an elevator. I was amazed how thick it actually is. It
should be 0.30m thick and at least 0.60m deep. I have learned that the placement of soil pipes are also important in
every building.

On site, I saw the importance of project management as well. You need to coordinate everything through
scheduling of manpower and material delivery, in order to guarantee a successful flow and to maximize the work load. I
also learned that if there is a Request of Information there is a Change of Order, and if there is a Change of Order, there
will be Changes for the Cost.

Lastly, I learned that before you start finishing or painting and such, you should correct everything you can so it
won't be a waste. Because once you've already painted or finished everything, it's going to be harder to revise and it will
be a waste.
