What is Halal

and Haram
halal and haram are concepts in islam in
which halal is everything that's allowed in the
religion.
The opposite of halal is haram which is
everything that is prohibited in islam.
we MUST not consume anything that is
haram.
Halal
Vegetables, fruit, and grains except those that cause intoxication
Animal-derived products extracted from Zabiha animals.
Milk and eggs of all permissible animal species..
All vegetable ingredients except those that cause intoxication.
Zabiha* meat (beef and lamb) and poultry.
Fish with scales.

*zabiha meat is from animals who were slaughtered in a permissible

way
Haram
what kinds of foods are prohibited or haram in islam?
any meat where the animal is tortured while being slaughtered is

haram. Other foods that are considered haram are:


animals that are commanded to kill (lizards, snakes, mice)
animals that died by injury, poison or illness
alcohol
birds of prey
amphibians
pork
mules/donkeys
animals with claws or fangs
Makruh
what is makruh?
Makruh in food is when something consumable is halal but disliked in

islam.
eg. prawn, shellfish, spoiled food
Hadiths

Narrated Abu Thalaba: Allah’s Messenger forbade the eating of the


meat of beasts having fangs (Bukhari).

Narrated Ibn Umar: The Prophet cursed the one who did Muthla to an
animal (i.e. cut its limbs or some other part of its body while it is still alive
(Bukhari).
