FIRST QUARTER
Brass Band – is an ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments in the Philippines
that usually play in fiestas, religious and civic celebrations. Brass band is called
a marching band.
Brass Band Instruments:
Woodwind
Piccolo- shorter and produces thinner sound than the flute.
Clarinet- a single-reed mouthpiece, a straight cylindrical tube with cylindrical bore and flared
bell.
Flute – an aerophone that produces its sound from the flow air across an opening. It produces
thin timbre.
Brasswind
Trombone – it means large trumpet, produces sound when the player’s vibrating lips cause the
air column inside the instrument to vibrate and the pitch is produced by sliding the valve.
Trumpet –highest register brass family. Played by blowing air through almost closed-lips,
producing a buzzing sound that starts a standing wave vibration in the air column inside
the instrument.
French horn – commonly known as a horn, a brass instrument made of tubing wrapped into a
coil with a flared bell.
Percussion
Cymbals –a round plates of various alloys and used in many ensembles ranging from orchestra,
percussion ensembles, jazz bands and marching groups.
Snare drum – known as the side drum in every present percussion instrument known for its
cylindrical shape and powerful, staccato sound.
Bassdrum – produces note of low definite and indefinite pitch.
