largest snowflake

The world's largest snowflake on record was 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick,
measured in Fort Keogh, Montana in 1887. This gigantic snowflake was so large that
it was said to have been able to cover a dinner plate! Snowflakes form when water
vapor in the air freezes into ice crystals, and their intricate shapes are determined by
temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors. Although snowflakes can
vary greatly in size and shape, most are actually quite small and difficult to see
without a microscope.
