Day 4 Teaching Reflection

1. Discuss your overall classroom management and timing so far. What strategies have
been successful and why? What has been challenging during your classes and why? What
are some specific strategies you can implement on Days 5 and 6 that will help with any
challenges as you work toward successfully finishing the lesson? Be sure to give specific
examples.
My classroom management and timing have varied between the last couple of teachings
day. For example, there was an occasion when the students arrived 10 minutes earlier than usual
and I was able to adapt quickly by having students do a quick icebreaker. Meanwhile, there was
another instance where students arrived 15 minutes late to class because of a misunderstanding
regarding when class started. Whether it's students arriving too early or late, I was able to get
through the main points of each lesson and have students be productive for as long as possible. I
have tried implementing an agenda at the end of my presentation to keep myself accountable and
manage better the time frames I'm giving myself teaching as well as the time for students to
work. I tend to lose track of time, especially when working time gets intense. I am looking
forward to using a timer whether on my phone or incorporated within my presentations where I
am visibly seeing the time decrease on a large projector. This will not only help me as a teacher
with developing better time management skills but also help students stay on track and also
visually see how much time they have remaining. I will be giving more verbal warming
throughout my lessons especially in upcoming teaching days since it will mostly be building and
finishing up last-minute details on their pinatas.

2. Consider your art room as a studio classroom. What are some specific ways students
have been creating work in an art studio-based way? What are some specific things you
could do to better facilitate students working independently or in a more self-directed way
as they create their artwork? Consider things like stations, supply tables, directions,
examples, materials, techniques, etc.
I have designated a table separately from all the students which only contains the
teacher's example, visual board, art materials, and supplies students might can use and share.
This allows students to be independent and be free to make their own decisions regarding what
materials they want to utilize. I always set up materials that are required to be used at the
beginning of the table and then optional items to embellish at the end. During each lesson, I walk
around and converse with students individually to check where they are, if they are facing any
challenges, what their plans are, and what they are most proud of at the moment. This is
important to me to do so just to better understand each student independently but also if anything
is interesting or a life lesson that maybe other students might benefit from, I share it with the
class as long as the initial student is okay with doing so. Overall, I have encouraged students to
maintain the environment we are in very nice and clean, despite being a cafeteria. Something
they don't seem too excited about cleaning up at the end of class, but still try their best to keep
supplies in proper strays and containers from where they got them from.
