What is
Technology?
Technology is the application of science or
knowledge to solve problems or create useful
tools.
Technology usually entails a specific piece of
equipment, which can be incredibly simple or
stunningly complex.
Machinery and equipment developed from
the application of scientific knowledge.
What is
Technology?
The word technology comes from the
Greek word “technología“. The greek
word “technología” itself is a combination
of other two greek words, “techne” which
means art, skill or craft and “logía” which
means study of.
Who conceptualize
the first computer?
Charles Babbage - Babbage was a
mathematician, philosopher, inventor and
mechanical engineer who saw a need for
an automated system that would negate
human error in computation.
Why was the first
computer invented?
The computer was invented in order to
automate mathematical calculations that
were previously completed by people.
What is the name of
the first computer?
ENIAC, designed by John Mauchly and J.
Presper Eckert, occupied 167 m2, weighed
30 tons, consumed 150 kilowatts of
electricity and contained some 20,000
vacuum tubes.

How
technology
affects
Society?
We are
surrounded by
technology
everywhere.
In today’s world, for almost every activity
whether personal (for example, operating a
personal savings bank account) or
business-related (for example, selling any
product or services); in some or the other
way, we rely on the computer system.

of Computer
Technology
Charles Babbage -
“The Idea”
Charles Babbage conceptualized and began
developing the Difference Engine, considered to
be the first automatic computing engine that
was capable of computing several sets of
numbers and making hard copies of the results.
Atansoff-Berry
Computer (ABC)
They created the first electronic
digital computer, called Atanasoff-

ABC is designed to solve systems of
simultaneous up to 29 linear
equations.

William Shockley, John
Bardeen and Walter
Brattain - “Transistors”
In 1947, William Shockley, John Bardeen
and Walter Brattain invented the first
semiconductor amplifier the
point contacttransistor.
The three shared the
1956 Nobel Prize in Physics
for their inventions.
Control Data Corp. -
"Super Computer"
The CDC manufactured the first successful
super computer called “CDC 6600”. CDC 6600
was the world's fastest computer from 1964 to
1969. They quickly became a must-have system
in high-end scientific and mathematical
computing.
John Blankenbaker, et
al. - “Personal
Computers”
There was no specific person who created the
first personal computer, Nonetheless,
according to the Computer History Museum in
California, “Kenbak” created by John
Blankenbaker was considered to be the first.

In 1981, the Osborne Corporation introduced
the “Osborne 1” that weighs at 24pounds, was
the first portable computer ever created.

The IBM Simon, is the 1995 version
of an IPhone. Although the term
"smartphone" was not coined until
1995, because of Simon's features
and capabilities, it has been
retrospectively referred to as the
first true smartphone.
Amazon -

Components
of a
Computer
A computer device is made up of
various elements which help in its
effective functioning and
processing.

By definition, components of a
computer system are the primary
elements which make the
functioning of an electronic device
smooth and faster.
There are 6 basic components which
include:
Input Unit
Output Unit
Memory Unit
Control Unit
Arithmetical and Logical Unit
Software System
Input Unit

A computer will only

respond when a command
is given to the device.
These commands can be
given using the input unit
or the input devices.
Output Unit

When we command a
computer to perform a
task, it reverts for the
action performed and
gives us a result. This result
is called output.
Memory Unit

When we enter the data into

the computer using an input
device, the entered
information immediately
gets saved in the memory
unit of the Central Processing
Unit (CPU).
Control Unit

The control unit is one of the most

essential components of the
computer system. The Control Unit
collects the data entered using the
input unit, leads it on for
processing and once that is done,
receives the output and presents it
to the user.
Software System

Software is the collection of

data, programs, procedures,
routines and instructions that
tell a computer or electronic
device how to run, work and
execute specific tasks.
Arithmetic &
Logical Unit

The mathematical
calculations or arithmetic
operations are performed in
the Arithmetic and Logical
Unit of the CPU. It can also
perform actions like a
comparison of data and
decision-making actions.
Capability

What is computer?

and processing data, typically in
binary form, according to
instructions given to
it in a variable program
