Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan for TLE Grade 9 – 1st Quarter

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the discussion, students will be able to:

• Identify different types of baking tools and equipment;


• Differentiate the function of each baking tool and equipment and;
• Demonstrate their understanding of the topic through a gamified baking
challenge.
A. Content Standard – Demonstrate tools and equipment, and their uses.
B. Performance Standard – Baking tools and equipment are identified based
on their uses.
C. Learning Competencies – Prepare tools and equipment for specific baking
purposes.

I. LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Preparation (15 minutes)


- Greetings
- Prayer
- Attendance check
- Classroom Management
- Classroom Rules
- Checking uniforms and proper grooming

B. Motivation (20 minutes)


- Begin the lesson by asking the students about their favorite baked goods
and what tools and equipment they think are needed to make them.
- Introduce the topic of baking tools and equipment.
- What baking tools and equipment is this?
(Mechanics of the game)
• Show pictures of different baking tools and equipment and have the
students identify them.
• Ask them what the use of each tool is. (Do not tell them the right
answer but give them tokens who have answered it correctly.)

C. Presentation (30 minutes)


- Kitchen Tour – Take the class on a tour where baking tools and
equipment are used. (This is important because they have to visualize
and see the actual sizes of it.
- While having the tour, explain their uses.
e.g., Measuring Cups and spoons – liquid and dry ingredients – it is
used to accurately measure both liquid and dry ingredients depending
on their quantities.

Hand Mixer – is used for different baking procedures such as beating,


stirring, and blending.
Muffin pan – 12 shaped cups are included for baking muffins and
cupcakes.
Grater – it is used to grate cheese, chocolates, fresh fruits, and even
vegetables.
Spatulas – these could be wooden or rubber spatulas, it is used to help
mix the dough, scrape stuck parts out of the pans, and even fold hot
omelettes.
- Explain how we are going to take care of these baking tools and
equipment.
- Randomly ask them if they answered correctly when they were playing
before in the motivation part.
- Encourage every student to take notes on what they learn and observed.

D. Generalization (15 minutes)


- Group the students into 3 groups.
- Ask each group to have two representativesand wrap up the lesson by
reviewing the different baking tools and equipment and their uses.
Each group should answer the following questions:
1. Why is it important to know about baking tools and equipment when you are
baking?
2. How are we going to take care of each tool and equipment?
3. Why do we need to stay clean inside the kitchen and why these tools should be
always sanitized?

E. Assessment (2 hours and 30 minutes)


“BAKE IT TO WIN IT!”
- The teacher will provide simple ingredients that students will bake on
the same day. (Chocolate Chip Cookies, Brownies, and Chocolate
cupcakes) including a list of required tools and equipment.
- Each group will be given the chance to gather their ingredients, tools
and then start baking.
- Each group will present their baked goods and explain the tools and
equipment they used and why.
- Students will be assessed based on their participation in the baking
challenge and their presentations.
- The class will also be assessed based on their overall understanding of
the topic, as demonstrated in the baking challenge and presentation
judging.
- The winning group will receive a prize. (e.g., badge, extra credit, or
token that can be converted to their final grades)

F. Assignment (10 minutes)


- Ask the students to continue practicing their baking skills.
- Each group will choose another recipe as they are going to bake again
at the next meeting.
- Share their creations with the class in a future lesson and ask why they
come up with that recipe.
